nic
My family has helped various refugees acclimate to the US. It is true however that some start in very bad neighborhoods in Aurora CO. Our Karen family started there. We took our then 13 year old boys and 5 year old girl with us because we wanted them to enjoy helping others and experience people from a different culture, but it was not a safe place. The worst that happened to us was a vandalized car, but they had to live it every day. They worked hard, the older siblings pitched in, and within 3 years they had a new home in a safe place and recently became citizens. Out Afghan family had it much better thanks to a benefactor. They have an place in Centennial and a much better start. It helps that the father was a pilot, as well. They have almost been 1 year. https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/18/us/afghan-evacuees-one-year-later/index.html 1 Link to comment

I think politicians today could accomplish similar things. But, that would have to be after getting rid of television cameras, social media, broadcast speeches, talking media wackos, political talk shows....etc. Back then, the vast majority of what the public saw was what the result was. They didn't constantly hear propaganda 24/7 put out by people who really don't care what the truth is. If you put most of the politicians in a room with no windows or camaras to pander to and absolutely no televised interviews before or after.......way more things would get done that are good for the country. First of all, people like MTG, Boebert, Jordan...bla bla bla...wouldn't even be in congress. Link to comment
