When 4-8 isn't the same thing as 4-8

For some perspective on the perspective, you shouldn’t win your division with a point differential of 24 points. That means you’re probably in too many coin flip games.

If you played in 3 games a season that had a 50% chance to win, that’s only a 12.5% to win all 3.  Scoring margin is one of the best single stat indicators for predicting future results for this reason. Winning by a sizable margin helps offset the random events that can occur in a game with a pointed ball and referees that have to make so many judgment calls. For Northwestern, a team that plays in a lot of single score games, those decisions are pretty significant.

The improvement for Nebraska from 2017 to 2018 is very significant, but +24 is not a good goal if your desire is to win the division and pursue possibilities that such an accomplishment may enable.

But Riley really wanted to run the ball.  He was just using the pass to set up the run.

I take it you’re joking?

rileys teams consistently passed for 2 to 4 times the yardage they ran for

those are real stats fro his osu days

he never committed to running the ball or developing anything beyond inside and outside zone running plays

and those seemed to be an afterthought when it came to real games

the thought of it makes me sick even today

Yes, I am joking.

It's amazing what people will try to convince themselves of.
