I have, at times, been given "certain students" relate better to me before of certain features I have. I have also had certain students because I was their coach or because their parents requested me (shocking, I know, that one hardly ever happens) I also worked with an administrator that got all bad black kids because he was black, sent to him when they were in trouble. I have also offered to take certain kids in my class. One of the (very) few things I am good at is classroom management, so I have in the past offered to take a kid or two that were going to be horrible. Ironically I have never been given a student based on my ability to teach or knowledge of the subject matter. 3 1 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2652926
BigRedBuster
Yes please!!!! I didn't even know this wasn't a requirement anymore. But, it's pretty evident that even some of our elected officials don't know anything about this subject. 3 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2654666
teachercd
I did not know that it wasn't? They don't always call it Civics, usually it is Gov or AP Gov, but I think all schools require it, that I know of. I taught it years ago to 7th graders. With that said, it could probably use some revamping but I think the basics are there. I still with that we would register HS kids to vote when they are juniors/seniors in HS. Get them registered early! 1 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2654668

Get them registered early! I don't know how requirements work. Are there requirements that local districts have and then other requirements that the state has? So, local school districts could have the requirement but it's not a requirement right now at the state level? English Language Arts - 40 credit hours, ● Mathematics – 30 credit hours, ● Science – 30 credit hours, and, ● Social Studies – 30 credit hours. That is the basics for the core classes. I would guess that Civics/Gov/Poly Sci would be one of the required courses but I guess there might be districts that toss in something else. 2 1 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2654682
Archy1221
Maybe Chicago public schools would be better off with better leadership and the kids better off with school choice (and probably better parents who took a more active role in their education) https://www.yahoo.com/news/chicago-teachers-union-president-raises-080053821.html The Illinois Report Card recently released a report showing Chicago Public Schools spent $29,000 per student, and the teachers in the district are among the highest paid in big cities. 1 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2655462
teachercd
CPS Union is strong and bloated. NY might be the only stronger teacher union out there. 1 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2655463

Chicago Teachers Union is trash. I believe they are the ones that fought really hard to stay shut down after COVID because teachers liked staying home. 1 Link to comment https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88433-education/page/91/#findComment-2655468
