If this was a walk on it wouldn't make headlines, and likely also wouldn't generate this sort of heated debate. It's easy to walk away from a risky player when they aren't destined to be a rock star contributor. And I agree - until we know all the facts, we can't determine appropriate punishment. The debate here has sure been eye opening/disheartening though! I don't get the preoccupation some have with him being a football player. Sure it's why we know about it and are discussing it but it really really really has no bearing on my thoughts in this situation. He's supposed to be a good player but that has yet to be determined. This just as easily could be a walk-on player or really any high school or college student and my thoughts would be exactly the same. I wish people wouldn't assume that just because some of us would like more evidence of wrongdoing before crucifying the kid that it must be in the interest of keeping a supposed star player eligible. On a related note, I wonder how many that have already determined his guilt and low character would feel the same if he were a white kid from Nebraska. Casting aspertions on people's motives is quite the game, isn't it? 4 Quote Link to comment

There are certainly bad actors out there using them for nefarious things - but one has to question if there are more bad things happening or if there are just more people able to document and report them. I'd bet on the later. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Vegas
Was MO in Nebraska when he sent that video? Because Nebraska doesn't have a revenge porn law. We are only hearing one side of the story and its hers. Instead of jumping to conclusins why not wait until all the details are out before trash talking the kid? Im pretty sure innocent until proven guilty is still the law of the land. As far as we know she could have been embarrassed about the video and claimed rape meanwhile it was actually consensual. She never did file any charges and Mo wasn't involved with the video. The fact of the matter is kids make stupid choices without thinking about the consequences. I'm guilty of it and I'm sure just about everyone of you is as well. Also Frost and his staff probably didn't know the extent of it. And if they did, all it was at the time was an accusation. You don't boot /suspend a kid based on accusations. If he is guilty there should be disciplinary actions and the coaches should decide what they should be. Not some husker fan/spectacular on a forum page. Quote Link to comment
RedDenver
This isn't looking good: https://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/with-arrest-warrant-pending-calxifornia-sheriff-says-maurice-washington-should/article_2ed7d10a-607e-5c79-bbe3-d75b1ea91d3e.html Quote A search warrant affidavit obtained by The World-Herald detailed Washington's communications with the girl before he sent her the explicit video. Washington and the girl had dated in eighth and ninth grades, but had begun speaking again in 2018 on Instagram after the girl, then 17, congratulated him about going to Nebraska to play football. The conversations turned sexual, the affidavit said, and Washington made sexual advances toward the girl. When she told him she wasn't interested in a romantic relationship with him, he became "increasingly aggressive in his communication," the affidavit said, and became "angry and mean." The girl blocked him on Instagram. On March 2, about 8:43 a.m., the girl received a text message from Washington from a number that was later found to be registered to Washington's adoptive father, the document says. The text contained a 10-second video of a girl performing oral sex on one teen in the back seat of a vehicle, with another teen masturbating while watching her naked behind. "Remember this hoe," the text from Washington said, according to the affidavit. Quote Link to comment

Danny Bateman
I've advocated taking knuckleheads in the past because the overlap between knuckleheads and good football players is fairly high. If what RedDenver posted is accurate I'm not sure how Washington stays on the team. That's a pretty serious lapse in judgment. Maybe he gets a very severe suspension and told to keep his nose clean. Gotta let it continue to play out, but we're between a rock and a hard place here. People are going to be ticked off either way. 1 Quote Link to comment
