Maurice Washington Faces Charges

Your first reaction to one news outlet seemingly having more information than others is to essentially accuse them of lying? Come on. That's little more than conspiracy theory. Alia Conley is a kickass reporter.

As for Mo, I'm not sure I get the 'he's gone' talk just yet. His alleged decisions in this case were not good, but, he faces charges for a non-violent misdemeanor and a non-violent felony. Lawyers tend to seek plea deals in these sort of cases and I think whatever limitations set forth by a hypothetical plea will impact his future more than anything else. I have a feeling, and maybe it's a bad feeling, that he's not kicked off the team unless potential penalties make it impossible to remain a student athlete at Nebraska.

I agree that I don't think he is gone. Unfortunately for Mo the best charge they have on him is the child porn charge, but it appears to me from the coverage that the prosecution wants the revenge porn charge to stick (which is a lesser offense). The reason why the prosecution would want the revenge porn charge to stick is this is a high profile case (D-1 football player) that can be a cautionary tale to youngsters under a fairly new statute/crime. Getting a conviction/plea on the revenge porn brings attention to the statute and to high school students who most likely aren't aware such a crime exists. It also lends credence for school administration/guidance counselors to use as a teaching moment for students.

I see him pleaing out on the revenge porn in exchange for dropping he child porn charge. Mo gets probation and comes back to Nebraska. I think he gets a 1 game suspension and all parties involved move on.

If they have to suspend him, fine. Do what's right no matter how much it sucks. Life trumps football.

I agree. I just want to see him get a fair chance and not the rush to judgement of the last few days. Get the facts and then do what is deserved and right. Maybe it’s as bad as it sounds or maybe it’s something else. I just hope for the right result and don’t care how that impacts his playing/player status.

Yes. There's plenty of time to kick him off the team. There's no rush. Get the facts straight, figure out what he's actually done, and take appropriate steps.  If that appropriate step is being kicked off the team, so be it. If it's a suspension for a few games, we'd better be able to show that it's the actual appropriate step and not glossing over the problem.

This is probably the most accurate breakdown and outcome

I would like to know the eyerollers solution to these types of comments... Well said.

So much overreaction IMO. Looking at what he allegedly did I would say he deserves probation/diversion and a few game suspension. What he allegedly did is wrong without a doubt, but I don't think its something he can't learn from, or is a black mark on his character. First things first he needs to understand what he did was wrong. But after that point what more do we need to punish him for? It is an immature mistake, a bad thing to do to that girl, but I don't think its so bad he can't be reformed in short order.

And honestly, taking him being a football player for my favorite team out of it, I still think what he did is correctable behavior. He should be punished, but lets not toss the book at thr kid for this.

Since everyone under 18 is a minor, and people over 18 used to be under 18, this new definition of Child Porn is destined to be a complete mess, largely unrelated to the pedophile version of child porn which is far less nuanced. Revenge Porn at least has an anchor in privacy and blackmail, where intent and injury is easier to establish.

This is getting to be ridiculous.  Lets hang the kid without knowing the facts.  Yet,  lets get a basketball coach that cheats so we can win.  I'm one for class and being the school who is above board and respects the rules.  He has not been charged, the judge has been holding the paperwork for 3 months & Mo volunteered to go back to CA.  He is doing whats right.  If he is guilty, it is Frost & UNL who will decide his fate.  BUT right now he is innocent until proven otherwise.  If he was not an athlete, no one would give a s#!t!
