Maurice Washington Faces Charges

I agree and I would lean towards this being the case as well considering the 'revenge' charge would be considered a misdemeanor, and the 'possession' charge is I think a non-violent felony.

I was not able to find and confirm if possession of CP is considered a non-violent felony, though. I think it's non-violent.

I would also think they look at the CP charge on a case by case type of basis. There will be punishment of some sort I'm sure, but I would think they would take it easy on Maurice given the circumstances. I say give him enough punishment to know he was in the wrong for this and lets move on with it.

I'm guessing many of the people throwing around the label trying to force it to tell the entire story are grown ups who watch 18 year old porn stars. If we're talking about morality, I don't see much of a difference.

To the confused face, how is a 35 year old watching videos of an 18 year old stranger having sex less wrong than an 18 year old keeping a video of his ex girlfriend he received at 16 having sex at 15? IMO the age of both is relevant as is their history.

I don't need a court to tell me what is or what isn't an assault.

That is a significant issue. Men (all people really) do need a court to draw a line in the sand. Without it the entire argument is arbitrary and you cannot effectively enforce any law based on intangible feelings of victimization.

I didn’t have a smartphone but I did have a digital camera, computer, and internet and was willing to put some work in to attain 8.8/10 rating on ratemyrack.com. As I’ve said above, my 18-24 years would have been much worse had I come of age in 2010+.

Do you still have the link?

As a parent myself, I agree with your post.  It is amazing to read some of the responses.  By the tone of many of them, you can pretty much tell who has kids of their own or a sister that they would not want to see in this situation.  My God people, a 15 year old girl was sexually assaulted and we are worrying about a man/child who can run the football?  I am not going to judge anyone's moral compass, but there are many on this board that need to have their's reset.

I don't think anyone would like to see their daughter or sister experience what is alleged to have happened with this girl. I think the people who are rushing to judgement may be having a hard time imagining their son or brother being in MoWa's position though. I have a 24 yr old son and a 19 yr old daughter. Unfortunately in today's world these things are a very real issue. As in all things we do the best we can to enlighten them and give them as many tools as possible to deal with it and hope they make the right decisions. But they are still in the real world where this type of thing is commonplace and peer pressure and fitting in are likely more pertinent issues to them. It shocks and saddens me to know what some of these kids do on a daily basis, knowing they have failed to weigh the long term consequences and repercussions. Personally, I am not considering his status as a football player. That isn't influencing my thoughts at all. Honestly I am imagining this happening to HS friends of my daughter or my son or daughter. I feel very bad if in fact the girl was subjected to sexual assault (which we do not know for sure) and I feel bad for her if this came back to her in a revenge porn way. But until a lot more facts come out and it is proven otherwise, I also sympathize with MW and really feel it is wrong to throw about the phrase "child pornography" in relation to this situation. Kids don't magically transform just because they've attained 18 or 19 years of age. It's a travesty all around but I do wish people would hold their judgement, at least until the first facts are in and then maybe further until they actually know the motives and the people involved.

It was me because of the first sentence in that post: "I'm guessing many of the people throwing around the label trying to force it to tell the entire story are grown ups who watch 18 year old porn stars."

You're usually pretty good about making reasonable arguments but that's just a good old ad hominem. Maybe the eye roll would have been more appropriate.

I'm not the confused face, but I would start at the point where the 18 year old stranger is legally choosing to have sex, whereas the 15 year old is/can not.

So, let me ask this.

If an 18 year old is dating a 16 year old and has sex, that is technically statutory rape.  Should we kick any player off the team that has done this?

I was specifically talking about morality, not legality.

It’s illegal in California for 15 year olds to have sex with each other, but that doesn’t mean it’s morally wrong or more wrong than adults having sex with each other.

I’m specifically talking to people saying “child porn child porn child porn” as if there is no moral gray area for an 18 year old viewing video of a 15 year old he dated that he received when he was 16.

My brother dated a 15 year old freshman when he was a senior. I didn’t ask but I’m guessing they did illegal things (for him). That doesn’t mean those things were morally wrong because she was a minor and he wasn’t. Both of their ages are relevant.
