As a caveat, I'm not 100% familiar with California criminal procedure, but this case is not starting over. There would have been a plea hearing set at some time point whether or not he maintained the same attorney. The timeline on this is/has been pretty standard. If a plea deal is not reached at the plea hearing and he pleads not guilty he should get a trial date at that point (in which other deadlines in the case will be based).

He is already plead not guilty at the last hearing and the way I understand the next hearing in June is a plea hearing.  Does not make any sense, except for he has a new attorney.

He did not plead guilty a month ago.  That was reported but it was incorrect.
