Did the last ripple finally slide up to shore?

Fred Hoiberg said yes to Nebraska this week, prompting an extraordinary wave of Husker basketball fever. Most followers of the program wondered a month ago if NU would win an NCAA tournament game before an asteroid smashes the Earth.

Now we just assume it’ll happen in the next 2-3 years.

I had several conversations this week with ex-Huskers. A couple pointed out the blessing in disguise of 2018-19. If Tim Miles makes the NCAA tournament, Nebraska likely gives him a long-term contract and the program, as Cary Cochran put it, “never really moves forward.” It took a devastating collapse for Nebraska to get a coach of Hoiberg’s stature.

But it also may have required another event, from nine years ago.
