The house in Burr Ridge … man, Fred Hoiberg really loved that house. Best house his family has ever had, Hoiberg declares as he stirs up some blueberry oatmeal in a hotel lobby, and a trip back to Illinois only reinforces this bit of real estate melancholy. He wishes he could just transfer those 1.2 acres and the home built upon it over to Lincoln along with everything else. But then this is the bargain when it comes to fresh starts.

Plus side? They’ve had three showings already, and they found out a day earlier they got the house they wanted in Nebraska, and the twins will move down full-time once they’re done with grassroots hoops and a couple of Ivy League Elite camps this summer. “It’s been a good spring for them,” the proud papa says after a sip of black coffee.

It has, all in all, been a good spring for everyone. Hoiberg is here for Big Ten meetings as the new Nebraska men’s basketball coach, which is a far cry from doing puzzles at the kitchen table in a robe. He doesn’t know a lot about his team. In fact, at the moment, he and his staff are still searching for enough good players to be a competitive team this fall. Again: This is part of the bargain. And Hoiberg, 46, seems genuinely happy with the terms of the deal, and what will happen from here.
