bugeater17
Possible grass isn't always greener scenario... Hopefully he comes back to DONU ready to work to earn a spot! Quote Link to comment
cheekygeek
Seems like his being welcomed back (or at least the TIMING of the decision) might have something to do with losing Joshuah Moten to Texas A&M on July 2nd. https://247sports.com/Player/Joshuah-Moten-46041296/ Quote Link to comment

Anything other than speculation to support this? Quote Link to comment

We’re still going to keep recruiting other CBs, and Moten wouldn’t have been playing this season. 2 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Pure (and probably wrong) speculation and observation. But this coaches group has a reputation for being straight-shooters. You'll notice that Nixon did not declare until our higher priority target at his position committed to Notre Dame. You only have so many slots (at each position) and you get to a point where you are waiting for a guy before making the next guy your priority. And an incoming freshman knows his future playing time is going to be partially dependent upon how many guys are in his position room and that he has to beat. The defensive backfield looks like a more attractive landing spot the fewer guys are in that group. Meanwhile, CJ Smith has himself in a precarious predicament. I wouldn't rescue him until it worked in the teams favor, in that scenario. But that's just me... so yes, all speculation. 1 Quote Link to comment

This narrative that he was a back up plan needs to get put to rest. The staff likes both and would have taken both. Although Nebraska on Friday saw three-star Omaha Burke wide receiver Xavier Watts verbally commit to Notre Dame, Nixon said the timing of his announcement to attend NU was unrelated to Watts' decision. "I committed to Nebraska early last week, I just didn't announce it (until Monday)," he said. 2 Quote Link to comment

Huskers93-97
Hopefully kids see scenario's like this and realize the grass is not always greener. Nice 4 star prospect now playing for the Albany Great Danes. Sweet. Quote Link to comment

Xmas32
Wow, what a random landing spot. Best of luck to CJ at his new school! Quote Link to comment
Danimal
Considerable drop from P5 to FCS, for a guy that was a 4* coming out of high school and only played just a year of college. From the tweet sounds like there is a story behind this Quote Link to comment
