Popular Post BoNeyard
Well one of the reasons we hire Scott Frost. Should we have lost to Colorado? Nope. Did we? Yep. But here is the difference: In years past Nebraska loses that game to Colorado, just like they did last Saturday, and we hear the coaches quotes, we hear the players quotes, and we are fed to believe things will change, but they never do. It becomes the same thing year after year. We as fans get frustrated that it doesn't seem like there is any true pride in those loses and changes wont happen. But that is where Frost comes in and is different. Why? Because Frost is a Cornhusker, he's a Nebraskan. I think it is clear that many got swept up in the hype train that was created about this team/program that had back to back 4-8 seasons. Bottom line is, there is more of a rebuild going on here than we realize because we got blind sided by the hype that was pushed out. So comes the loss to the Buffaloes, one that leaves us scratching our head, but it shouldn't because that rebuild is still happening. It was a loss that stung, but the difference was, what our head coach was saying after the loss actually had meaning, it felt real, unlike years past. Then comes Northern Illinois, yes it was "just" Norther Illinois, but as Nebraska fans, coming off back to back 4-8 win seasons, there really shouldn't be "Just's". There is no such thing as guaranteed games anymore, and certainly not at this point in this programs rebuild. But what we saw was adjustments, not just by the players, but the coaching staff. We saw improvement by the team and by the coaching staff. Frost realized things needed to change and he changed them. It was refreshing, it was exciting. This year is still early, and my expectations aren't what they were before kickoff of game 1 vs South Alabama. But here is a nice thing to realize, Nebraska already has 2 wins, half way to last years win total and we aren't even in October yet. A bowl game is very well in reach, and again a program coming off back to back 4-8 seasons, a bowl game should be a realistic expectations and move forward from there. Colorado's loss stung, but seeing and knowing the program is changing and our head coach is meaning it is refreshing and exciting. The culture is changing at Nebraska and the payoff is going to be great. 11 1 4 Quote Link to comment
Whs from cb
Well said. We as fans need to stay positive and support the coaching staff. I don't think anyone wants to win more than the players and coaches. 1 Quote Link to comment
I am I
I agree. Also, I’m done talking and thinking about the Colorado loss. We showed some moxie against NIU (2 min drill, more D turnovers, long gains on O, aggressive D, etc) and that’s what I was hoping for. We bounced back nicely. Hopefully what we find out moving into Conf schedule is just another piece of what’s not quite right (kicking game, AM, oline for starters) gets fixed. The ones that are right stay right. Just add more pieces to the puzzle each week and we’ll be a complete picture soon. Frost and Co won’t rest until we see it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Nebfanatic
We are in perfect postition to continue on an upward trajectory. The defense is looking good, especially against the run. While the offense has struggled, they are slowly getting better and that is a very young unit with one of the best offensive minds in the conference coaching them. The offense will get right and start looking good consistently at some point and when it does, we will look like a top 20 team out there if the defense can keep it up. Quote Link to comment
lo country
I think the loss was humbling for Frost. That's a good thing. In the presser after NIU, Frost said that he had to listen to his staff and others about the "No fear of failure" mantra. He realized he needs to not fear it either. Husker fans are a bi-polar bunch, but he is one of our own and Husker nation has his back. I've come to the realization that we did not decline in one season and we will not be re-built in a season or two either. A lot of positives going forward, but room for improvement for sure. 4 1 Quote Link to comment

This was my favorite take from his post game press conference. The Colorado loss may be a blessing. We are not national contenders yet, even if we were 3-0 and nothing conference wise ended with the loss. And yet so much was learned. Win the West, which is a very realistic possibility, roll the dice in conference championship, enjoy a nice bowl game, and recruit some offensive lineman and a kicker. 1 Quote Link to comment

You'd think we could get a decent walk on back up for Pickering if we really went looking. I guess thats what Jorgensen is supposed to be. But I mean you could also get yourself a true specialist who can kick and punt like an Alex Henery as your punter then you are good. Quote Link to comment
cheekygeek
Frankly the thing I was happiest to see was the 2nd string performance, including the offensive line. I know it was late in the 4th and psychologically NIU may have lacked intensity, but the 2nd string executed well. I don’t want a QB controversy but I will say this: At the QB position SPEED is not just 40 yd times. It is reading the field, time to make a decision, and time to get the ball there (combined). A slow read or indecision on where to throw the ball effectively makes one a slower QB and can be the difference between success & failure, for that play. 2 Quote Link to comment
WyoHusker56
Wasn't sure where to put this, but I think this is why we hired Frost as well. To bring in kids with the hard work mentality. Pair that with Frost's schemes and actual development we'll get back to the top sooner or later. I think it was after Frost was hired some local news guys were interviewing players and one of the players was yelling at them to hurry up they wanted to go to some fast food place. I think this highlights the change in culture and mentality. It might not show on the field all the time, but it will. Quote Link to comment

As you mentioned, the 2nd string guys came in and NIU was probably just ready to head home. However, Noah looked very smooth and the OL looked competent in limited action. That was a great snapshot of the future. Not necessarily the QB, but the smooth efficient offense that IMO, appeared to have used more of the playbook. Quote Link to comment

These are the type of kids with their work ethic and focused mentality that will turn NU from pretenders into contenders. I doubt we saw much of this the past few years. Honestly, to include some of the upper class men starters. Perhaps now, but I doubt prior to Frost. Quote Link to comment

This is something that usually catches media attention and I've never seen it posted. So, I doubt it was happening at all during the Riley years and maybe occasionally during Bo. Dansker
We hired Frost to win games. If the proof isn't in the pudding, he will end up just like his predecessors. That is the reality we face as a fan base. Because he IS one of us, he'll be given a lot more runway space. 2 Quote Link to comment
jsneb83
I've heard that we only had one penalty, but didn't we also have that illegal batting penalty? Or is it since it was during an extra point, it doesn't count? Quote Link to comment
Nobody
i dont know about YOU guys... but i'm pretty numb at this point. i'm done playing musical chairs with coaches. its scotts team to fail with and if thats what hes gonna do, im gonna sit and let it happen. options have run out. grab the popcorn and watch the ship sail or sink. i'm sure we'll be fine in scotts hands.
