What did we learn? (The Illinois edition, sponsored by Stickum brand adhesive)

This felt more like a game from the first half of last season than anything - constantly shooting ourselves in the foot with turnovers and penalties despite putting up mind-boggling yards. Only difference is that we somehow managed to win this one... against a bad team that we obliterated last year.

That's exactly what I thought.  Frost is right that we are better than we were game 1 and that we are better than we were last year at this time.  Why do we need to suffer through a replay of the first half of last season?  Why couldn't our jumping off point this year been closer to how we were playing at the end of last season?

I learned that Robinson looks like Abdullah did as a freshman.

Do you actually remember Abdullah's freshman year? I mean, at this point in that season, we'd barely even seen him. Burkhead was the starter that year, and behind him it was a three-way battle for the top backup job between Abdullah, Green, and Heard. Abdullah didn't really emerge as the clear #2 until about the last three games of the season.

He absolutely did. Ameer caught one pass his entire freshman year and ran for a total of 150 yards.

Ameer was a great kickoff return specialist his freshman year, that's about it.

Wandale looks like he could have the best freshman season for a skill position player at Nebraska since Ahman Green.

Mills makes the Oline look bad. The guy has absolutely no vision and consistently runs straight into the backs of his own Oline. When Washington and Wandale get the ball, there are suddenly holes they find. It’s not that the Oline is blocking differently. It’s that Mills rarely sees the hole. There should be no reason Wandale who is half the size has that much more success running between the tackles than Mills does.

Overall, I think it was a good win.  It’s was good to finally be in the right side of s close game.  I think this will be a huge motivator for the team.

Offense

-Wandale  is a freak

-Washington is s freak

-Spielman is a freak.  Martinez is going to get he killed if he can’t tighten it up.

-The offense is way better when Martinez is a run threat.  He was slow and hesitant early.

-What’s the story on the snaps?

Defense

-Overall I thought they played well, but I still link we are lacking the elite playmakers like we have on offense.  It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next few years as they get better players.

Overall

You should never win a game with that many turnovers, penalties, and poor field position.  We should just take it and move on.
