Rolling Stone Top 100 Singers of All Time

Recommended Posts

What constitutes ''Top Singer''?

Bob Dylan's voice usually makes me picture Floyd the Barber, but I do sorta like it's uniqueness.

A few of my favourites Not listed:

Willie Dixon

Layne Staley

Chris Cornell

Sting

Michael Johnson

Michael McDonald

Terry Kath

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Sade

Karen Carpenter

Brad Delp

Ann Wilson

Paul Rodgers

Probably lots of opera singers that I haven't listened to...yet ...   annnnd  ...probably missing a few hundred more

A lot of great names on this list that I wouldn't even begin to know how to rank. Bob Dylan may be one of the greatest artists of all time, but not a great singer per se.

I love Nirvana, but Kurt Cobain was not a great singer. His grunge contemporaries from Seattle Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder are far and away better singers.

Another name that popped in my head: Grace Slick. She was a powerful vocalist.

This list makes no sense. A list of singers should be about singing ability. They didn’t even get the top 2 singers of The Beatles in the right order. I love John Lennon’s voice but there’s no way in hell he’s a better singer than Paul. And Bob Dylan is a great musical artist but doesn’t belong anywhere in the top 100.

No kidding, if Bob Dylan is a good singer than porn stars are good actresses.

johnny cash and art garfunkel should both be rated higher than they are.

I wouldn't put Johnny even in the top 100.

Singing is such a subjective thing.  I would have Freddie Mercury in the top 10 at least.

People like what they like.

Only three in common with the top ten of OP's list.  Goes to show how subjective tastes in music are.
