The Randy Gregory maneuver, from the sound of it. (Though I hesitate to compare their situations.)

I dunno. Maybe MW has similar problems with anxiety and depression that we don’t know about. Sounds like the kid has been through a lot since his dad died early on.

That was one of the things I was thinking about.  And who says marijuana is not addictive?   Lol

Science

That's not entirely true, the word “addiction” is used to refer to a compulsive, uncontrolled use of a habit-forming substance that is characterized by tolerance and withdrawal symptoms. Further definitions sometimes go into addictive behaviors. Research suggests that cannabis use can lead to:

Withdrawal: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.drugalcdep.2010.04.010 ( Budney, A. J., & Hughes, J. R. (2006). The cannabis withdrawal syndrome. Current opinion in psychiatry, 19(3), 233-238.)

Tolerance: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0149763418302665 ( Colizzi, M., & Bhattacharyya, S. (2018). Cannabis use and the development of tolerance: A systematic review of human evidence. Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 93, 1-25.)

and

Addictive behaviors https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4877269/ ( Hughes, J. R., Naud, S., Budney, A. J., Fingar, J. R., & Callas, P. W. (2016). Attempts to stop or reduce daily cannabis use: An intensive natural history study. Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, 30(3), 389.)

The research is a little more mixed than with other drugs, but the idea remains the same.
