Not really sure what's confusing about it

A persistent quest against a fear or toward a goal is often the best course of action. Repeating the same constructive behavior over and over, hoping (one day) for a positive result is difficult but virtuous. It's the effort made by eating oatmeal every morning, brushing your teeth after every meal and daily journaling. It's weekly therapy, consistent workouts and taking time for spirituality. It's Rudy trying over and over to get into Notre Dame. Or Mother Theresa tirelessly serving the poor. Or someone working to systematically overcome shyness, build healthier habits or communicate better with their spouse. It's a 12-stepper taking it "one day at a time." The qualities of perseverance, consistency, loyalty - these are beneficial to health and definitely not insane. And they're doing the same thing every day, hoping for some measure of progress. - https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/in-therapy/200907/the-definition-insanity

I hope they have their best week of practice!

It would be interesting if everyone who was interviewed from now on doesn't talk about practice.  When asked about it, they simply say, "we aren't talking about practice because obviously, what's being seen in practice, isn't being seen on Saturday.  We will only prove what is happening in practice by how we play on Saturday.  When we play well on Saturday, you will then know we had a good week of practice".

It's an interesting message that would be drilled into the team constantly.

So what’s the point of continuing to start said players who aren’t going 100% if that’s actually the case?

It's not the case. It's just the convenient excuse for giving up 38 points to an average opponent.
