Something is seriously wrong here on 2 levels 1. Rhetorical question wt the obvious answer of yes 2. A defense that so easily gets beat by the third string QB. Not a shame if it is 3rd string at BAMA who over recruits and fills the cupboard full of 4/5 star players but we talking Purdue whose last great QB has been a QB in the NFL since 2001!!. Danimal
Since we wasted a game for 1 rep against NW I would hold him out against Wiscy then throw him out there at least as a "packages" qb against Mary. If that works use him more against Iowa. Redshirt intact. Quote Link to comment

Any stop on a 3rd and 7 would have sealed the win, and our lasting memory would have been Adrian Martinez on a designed keeper, pumping his fist in the end zone, sealing the six wins needed for a bowl game. Adrian is definitely not as good as he was last year, none of it having to do with the OL and all of it having to do with his decision making. But I gotta think if our defense wasn't so helpless, we might not be having this conversation. We are not going to have a good defense with Chin and his crew around, so it will be up to the offense to make the most of their opportunities. 2 blocked punts and two turnovers should be way more than 3 points. A game like the Northwestern game will be few and far between. We can't win a lot of games ugly like a team with a great defense like Iowa can. Their offense can sleepwalk most games against mid to lower level teams. Most weeks we will have to score a lot of points and not have ugly turnovers, so 1 or 2 good quarters on offense is not enough. Martinez should ride the pine for at least a game. Vedral would gave won us the Purdue game. If Vedral or McCaffrey panick when seeing our defense get killed by Wisconsin or Iowa, he will probably get the job back soon enough or in the early offseason if he isn't fragile and transfers. Martinez is missing too many open players. While he could benefit from someone like a Stanley Morgan Jr, he is still over throwing our tall players as well. Martinez also is not taking off and running when he has sure fire 1st downs. Hopefully, it isn't because of the QB coach being more concerned about turning him into an NFL QB over winning games. Sometimes, I wonder if he tinkered too much with Martinez in the offseason. 2 Quote Link to comment
