What's it going to take?

We have been dealing with an up and mostly down roller coaster ride ever since Solich was escorted out of town. So the threshold of pain has become a part of being a fan. Wondering what the trigger will be to make a defensive coordinator change? Hire someone to call the plays instead of Frost? Usher in younger players who might buy into this system and forgo the veterans who think Husker football is merely and extension of Club Med? Would it be a loss to Maryland? Forty point losses to Wisconsin and Iowa. I'm just curious to what the breaking point is. You look at Chip Kelly at UCLA. That team sucked last year but now they are showing improvement. This Husker team is actually getting worse every single week.

Its going to take changing the culture so this team doesnt curl up in a ball and give up every time they face adversity.  they are good enough talent-wise to be competitive with every team they play.  bad locker rooms find new ways to beat themselves and we see that week in and week out.

you might also have to change defensive coordinators.  i dont know that culture is enough to fix that side of the ball.

Coaches dont miss tackles, stand around and watch others try to tackle then try to assist after opposing players break away for long runs or tds.  Coaches dont drop passes or over/under throw wide open recievers.

Like Adam Carricker said today in his show, you cant coach effort.

We have a lack of effort by a lot of players.  Do the coaches pull players at this point and burn redshirts?  Only a coach who is trying to save his job would do that in my opinion.

Yes this season hurts to watch but i have faith that SF will turn it around.  We cannont continue  the 2-3 year and change coaches, thats why we are here now.

Rob, how do you feel about the 3-4.

Starts and ends with recruiting.  Until we have some NFL draft picks on this roster, the games are not going to  change a lot.  A break thru victory would change things immensely.  Heck, a Bethune-Cookman game right now would change things up!

When I read threads like this, and ask myself which part of this team is doing good, you don't have an answer.......no part is doing theres well enough.  Can't pinpoint one certain area that needs more help than the other.  Schemes don't matter, on either side of the ball.  If we lose our next game, might as well burn the RS and get players some time and action to evaluate for next season.  Find your best 11 on both sides of the ball and play them.  If we  are doing that already, then our best 11 on each side is well below average.

Again, recruiting is the mainstay for any program.  We were minus for a couple of years, and now playing catch up.  It only takes a few players to change or transform a roster.  Either addition by subtraction, or just plain adding some thru recruiting.

Ive never liked the 3-4, but i grew up watching the huskers dominate with the 4-3.

It didnt take a coachung change to switch from the 5-2 that Nebraska ran to the 43, it did however take a change in philosophy.  McBride did it who says Chins cant.  This team needs continuity not constant turn over.

Look at NU DL in the 90s and compare them to now.  The davis twins and Daniels look fat and out of shape in comparison.  Either one of the Peter brothers whould have scored a td on that int.

We need to recruit to it, or develop it that's for sure.....We out recruit a lot of teams in the B1G, but you can't tell by watching the past "X" number of years.  Just need to develop, coach and execute.  Get enough depth that we truly reload.  And can afford to sit guys who half a$$ it.....

How about we sit back and enjoy the ride.

Enjoy the ride? I mean, I can sit back and be patient, because there really is no other choice but to wait and see if we can actually improve. And I will always be a fan. But this ride is not enjoyable.

I've never liked this philosophy. No coaches aren't the ones out there missing tackles and dropping passes, but it's the job of the coaches to teach those players. Poor fundamentals and poor execution absolutely belongs to the coaches.

You can't coach effort? Well, you can reward good effort. You can motivate. You can disincentivize poor effort.

I don't know the answers, and I still pretty much believe that it is Frost or bust. But I think everything falls on the coaches.

My opinion is that the head coach has to recognize that it's not just about "execution" and "being on-board," etc.  Nebraska football is now infected with a culture of losing.  It's like a meme.. perhaps it is a meme.  A silent one.  No matter the effort in practice and even on the field, the background feeling out there now is "I hope we don't lose"  It's supposed to be "We've got this.  We've f#&%ing got this!"  For all practices and for four quarters of football.

What makes my hopes rise is what happened at UCF.  Frost did cause the program to unravel the losing culture and ignite a winning one, in spite of a mediocre DC.

Again, just my opinion.  As I think about all of the possibilities and remedies for whatever the problem is, I keep coming back to that culture change thing, the nuts and bolts be damned (recruiting, the play book, execution, buying into the coaches' plans, etc).  A culture of defeat.  It's like wallpaper, in the background.  But there.

Consistency? They have been consistently awful since they’ve been here. If they don’t start developing players and playing sound football, recruiting will tank. Top prospects aren’t coming to Lincoln if the coaches can’t coach themselves out of a wet paper bag. Hopefully, they get to a bowl at some point in their tenure. I want Frost to turn it around but I don’t want 7 years of the crap fest product we’ve seen so far. Get your guys and win. No more excuses.
