@Archy1221 I don't get it.

It refers to this op-ed in the WSJ in which this d-bag said that Jill Biden, who has a PhD, should not use her title of "Dr." It sparked a lot of outrage from the higher ed community. Honestly, the article was condescending and sexist. It also fell right in line with the anti-intellectualism that has been running rampant through the GOP in the past few years. Archy's cartoon continues to make fun of Jill Biden and promotes that same anti-intellectualism. Good job, Archy.

ahhh....OK.  Falls in line with how Republicans don't respect higher education.

After all, remember Trump loves the uneducated.

I'm assuming Husker fans who fall into this group never refer to TO as Dr. Tom.

Thank you.

It actually goes further back than a WSJ oped.  Refers more to academics demanding to be called “doctor” outside of their professional work environment and trying to equate themselves to actual Doctors.  The cartoon doesn’t make fun of Academia or Intellectualism.  Just the pretentious nature of some PEOPLE in academia and those people  confusing the general public about who Doctors are.

For goodness sakes, Whoopi Goldberg actually floated Jill Biden for Surgeon General on The View because she thought Mrs. Biden was a Doctor.  The NYT has referred to Jill Biden as Dr. more than they have referred to an actual Dr., Ben Carson as Dr.

By the way, Jill Biden is not a PhD.

I work at a university, I know tons of "doctors", and the vast majority of them go by their first name or some sort of nickname. Many of them are as informal with their students as well. It is rare for someone to "demand" to be called doctor, even though that is their actual appropriate and earned title. In formal settings, or when you are meeting someone, or when you are showing respect, you use those titles.

You are correct, Dr. Biden has an EdD, not a PhD. Still a doctorate.

Has this been something that she has been overly stuffy or pretentious about? Or are the right-wingers going back to their stupid nothingburgers like Hillary's pantsuits or Obama's tan suit?

Overall discussion on the subject Has nothing to do with Jill Biden specifically so no it’s not a “right winger” issue.   It’s a political cartoon so lighten up a little.

The reason Jill Biden got her EdD in the first place is so people would call her Dr. Biden instead of Mrs. Biden.  Not the reason most people get post graduate degrees, but good on her for bettering herself, it just doesn’t make her an actual Doctor any more than Dr. Dre, Dr. Suess, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, and that’s why the cartoon is funny.  She is a very educated educator and society could use more of those.

An EdD is a doctor. What do you think it stands for?

And this is a ridiculous argument where people don't understand that not all doctors are medical doctors.
