Fischer Statement On Drone Activity In Western Nebraska
LINCOLN, NEB. - Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), released the following statement following sightings of unidentified unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, in western Nebraska and eastern Colorado:

'My staff and I are aware of the recent drone sightings. We have been in touch with the FAA, and are monitoring the situation closely. I encourage Nebraskans to notify their local law enforcement office of any additional sightings.'  LINK

THANK YOU BRB.  On the  east coast this has become a "how silly that the people in the midwest think this is something to be worried about - why is it in the news?"

Nuclear Command Bunker is in Dix, which sounds to be exactly where they are flying these.  And also - isn't one of the bunkers for POTUS and others in a time of crisis in NE as well?  Lots of reasons to be snooping around.

Reminds me of a funny story. Had some family members running around paintballing at night in the middle of nowhere near Kimball. They got too close to a missile site and a chopper comes in, picks them up, takes them to Cheyenne and asks them what they are doing so close to there at night with weapons

This is kind of creepy...

Are there regulations for drones?

Yes, FAR part 107. https://www.faa.gov/news/fact_sheets/news_story.cfm?newsId=22615

Range on a commercial drone is several miles, but that means you have to have someone flying it with POV, right?  I don't think you'd program something like that to fly out of direct sight.

No, you can easily buy an autopilot that can fly autonomously. UAV autopilots have been available for over a decade now. Just do a google search for small UAV autopilot and you'll find dozens of companies selling them.

DENVER -- Law enforcement plan to hold a closed-door meeting in Yuma County Monday to discuss mysterious drone sightings plaguing eastern Colorado.

In the past few weeks, dozens of people from Weld to Yuma counties have reported large clusters of drones hovering or flying in formation. On Saturday night, a FOX31 viewer captured video of one of 30 reported drones flying east to west over Kiowa. An expert tells the Problem Solvers the drones may be more than 8 feet across and cost $100,000 to assemble.

Sheriff's offices in eastern Colorado, the FBI, the FAA and politicians are now involved in tracking down these drones. Two storm chasers are monitoring the sky above the eastern plains, hoping to help verify drone sightings and aid in the investigation. So far, no one has come forward claiming responsibility.

On Monday, law enforcement will meet in private to layout all the information known about the mysterious drone sightings in hopes of tracking down answers behind the drones.

So....someone has possibly spent over $3,000,000 on drones flying over Colorado and Nebraska.....and the Feds don't know anything about it?
