1995 Huskers on very short list (with 2019 LSU) as Best Ever

They pretty much DID name their score.  They had won their first seven games by a combined 307 to 65.  Other than the rivalry game with Florida State (which they won by three scores) it was 258 to 38 - basically allowing 7 points per game.

Boston College was a classic trap game - road game coming off two huge wins with two Top 20 teams coming up in the following weeks. Miami turned it over five times.  Not all that different from the 1995 Huskers only managing to beat 3-8 Washington State by 14 points.  It happens.  BC finished the year ranked.

Miami had the Virginia Tech game fairly well in hand before allowing two late scores - one on a blocked punt - to make it interesting down the stretch.

But did they have any impressive wins while playing only the 22nd toughest schedule?  Maybe beating a pair of 8-4 teams (FSU and Washington)?  The opening win against Penn State who went on to finish 5-6?  Or even the Rose win against the Huskers who didn't even play in the conference championship game?

2019 LSU would not have been able to drop the dimes on 1995 Nebraska like they did on Clemson.  The 1995 Nebraska offense would have put up about the same score that 94 Nebraska put on Mia.  It would have been a Nebraska win probably in the 27-24 range.  If playing in 2020 world with terrible refs and crazy rules, LSU wins.  If playing in 1995 world with decent refs and a pure set of rules, 95 Nebraska wins.

2019 LSU and 2001 Miami would have been a GAME

Washington finished the season ranked and they beat them 65-7.  That seems good.

Syracuse finished the season ranked and they beat them 59-0.  That seems good.

They won the National Championship game by more than three scores.  That seems good.

Nebraska was ahead 35-14 with 4 minutes to go in the game.  We also had numerous backups in the game at the time they scored the last touchdown to make the game appear closer than it was.  That is drastically different than being in a position to lose to BC or VT that year for Miami.
