He sat next to T.O. on a commercial flight one time when Tom was still coaching. Tom was friendly with him at the beginning of the flight. Then my uncle tried to explain how important it was for Tom to go ahead kick those field goals late in the game it it'd put them over the point-spread. T.O. quit talking to him after that and immersed himself in a magazine. I suspect that was one of T.O.'s unpleasant fan interactions. lol What's funny is how many of the super positive interactions were because people won some money??? Link to comment

I’m against it being in Neb. Those are two different things. If you want to gamble, go for it. Head on over to Council Tucky. 1 Link to comment

So a person living and working in Nebraska won't suffer from gambling addiction and its consequences if it is done across the Missouri? 2 Link to comment

To me, we're already suffering the costs of it; might as well reap the benefits. 4 Link to comment

First I thought TO shouldn’t talk about legislation, then the conversation moved to alcohol and tobacco, now it’s “Eh it’s a half hour away, who cares?” What benefits? Just because a state has legalized gambling doesn’t mean it generates unmitigated revenue. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.propublica.org/article/illinois-video-gambling-some-states-waiting-gambling-windfall/amp https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.chicagotribune.com/politics/ct-illinois-gambling-report-20190912-ga56b2vu5bcrfaobgq53iu5w3e-story.html%3foutputType=amp 1 Link to comment

It didn't work that way. Now the state wants to increase its cut of the gambling revenue. A judge has ordered the state and the tribes into arbitration over the issue. 1 Link to comment
The Dude
I love Coach and respect his point of view on this topic. I just fundamentally disagree with it. Just because I disagree with it doesn't mean he needs to stay home. He should stand up for what he believes in. This attitude that people who disagree with you need to be silent is rotten to its core, and has given American politics a$$ cancer. 2 2 Link to comment

Correct me if I’m wrong TG, but didn’t Oklahoma significantly cut funding for schools, because they said the projections of the gambling revenue would be enough? But then the gambling revenue was so low the schools were drastically underfunded, leading to the teacher strike a couple years ago? 1 Link to comment

But sure, let's keep giving millions of dollars to Iowa. We don't need it anyways. https://www.wowt.com/content/news/Debate-strikes-over-gambling-in-Nebraska-after-Sen-Wayne-proposes-new-bill-567740151.html Quote In January alone, the three Iowa casinos saw more than $8 million in bets on sports and $31 million on table games and slots. Supporters say Nebraska opponents of expanding gambling are being hypocritical, that the lottery has been here for years and participants have better odds of winning at a casino. Since September — when sports betting went into effect in Iowa — Wayne said Iowa has collected $1.9 million in new revenue. Link to comment
