I think most reasonable people agree that mouth-breathing gumps walking around Costco without masks are stupid. Beyond that, anyone have anything to offer?  What would be a good plan to move the country forward under the circumstances?

There is no good way forward.  We are what we are.  We are a country of individuals (that is good).  But, that doesn't work in these situations.  There will just be a certain part of the population that has the attitude of either, "this is stupid and you are stupid for going along with it" or "you're not going to tell me what the f#&% to do".

I hope this doesn't happen.  But, the only way this changes a majority of their minds is if we have a major spike in infections and deaths.  Even then, most of the people in the above mentioned groups won't wake up unless it happens in their area or within their family/friend circle.  And, many of them that that happens to won't get it.

This has definitely exposed major issues in adult care facilities. It seems as though once a resident became infected, it spread throughout the nursing homes like wildfire. Clearly there are issues in being able/willing to quarantine residents. Just a guess, but perhaps poor sanitation and lack of resources played a role?  One thing that’s come out of this should be that public health is in everyone’s best interest, and if it means gov’t stipends or subsidies to allow for better care in these facilities...money well spent and cheaper/safer in the long run.

You're not wrong, there are many issues in that realm. Quality caregivers are very hard to get in the senior care world. The other issue is the virus itself. The virus is perfect for causing devastation in that environment. At skilled nursing and long term care facilities you have patients that are immunocompromised with many times, multiple underlying conditions. You combine that with care techs and staff that are generally younger, (many care techs are nursing students, working through nursing school). These young employees bring the virus in, without showing symptoms - work with multiple patients and employees - and just like that, the virus is spread to a very vulnerable population, without anyone knowing.

I agree Jason, it is one of the major aspects that needs to be studied in depth
