The entire underportion of the helmet is open.

And that’s how the virus will get in.  When the player breathes in there will be an air current coming in from the bottom.  COVID would gladly hitch a ride in.  Also, I think fogging up would be a problem.  Decent idea on paper, but I doubt it’s effective.

That's possible, yes. The biggest spread of this disease though is when someone coughs/sneezes and respiratory droplets land in others mouth, nose, eyes. This would help reduce that by stopping the largest droplets from being propelled forward. There is some evidence of aerosol transmission, but at a lower amount and being outside would help reduce that further.

Kind of just some 'thinking out loud' stuff here.

I think a lot of people (myself included) back in May were waiting for the August-ish timeframe to see how the virus was going in the U.S. There was maybe a bit of denial about the fact that coronavirus could wind up being a seasonal thing, like the flu.

Now we still don't know if that's the case or not. But at present, it doesn't look like corona is just being weeded out of the herd. Might it by this time next year? Really could, but we don't now.

I feel pretty sure we won't play a single game. My mind is already focused on next season and specifically on how we as a society come together to agree on how to proceed with life if coronavirus settles in to stay.

Here’s the cruel truth about how college football leaders approached football this fall: The entirety of their plan to return was based on hope. Hope that the COVID-19 would go away. Hope that college campuses wouldn’t be a petri dish for the virus. Hope that they could figure out a way to play a contact sport in a time of mandatory social distancing. Hope for a vaccine to keep players healthy and seats full.
