In the next 4 years, he won two grey cups. So....not sure where you're getting he was a .500 HC in his 20s and 30s. My comment was more on his rise through as an assistant to get into the HC ranks. Yeah, he won the Grey Cup in 1988. They were 9-9 in the regular season that year. I didn't realize the post-season record was in a different column. He was 40-32 (55%) in the regular season as a head coach in the CFL. He did go 6-2 in the playoffs which I didn't see earlier. But obviously he didn't have to be really great to make the playoffs. He was 11-9 (55%) as a head coach in the world leage. So where I was getting that is from his actual record. 1 Quote Link to comment

Is that like having a season propped up by winning a bowl game after going 5-7 in the regular season? 1 Quote Link to comment

knapplc
Riley's CFL success and subsequent hires kinda reminds me of Oklahoma hiring Schnellenberger. He got hired based on success he hadn't had in years. Quote Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
Mike Riley's career record prior to Nebraska is on par with Frank Solich's career record post Nebraska. What does that tell us? It tells us that the off-season can't end soon enough. 2 Quote Link to comment
teachercd
If you are using the Gray/Grey cup as any type of Proof that Riley was a good coach...you are doing it wrong. 1 1 1 Quote Link to comment
