I’ve followed the Cornhuskers for 40 yrs. Starting in early 80s.  So I know all the lore and the heart break, then finally breaking through and being THE team in the 90s. 
 

so if we back it up a bit, despite the fandom and the fanatics and the legend, knowing how Devaney struck gold….all that… but it’s like 

What made Devaney a great coach? How did he get the greatness and turn a program around and win how he did, under him. 
 

was he x and o, great recruiter, better scheme, etc…

he just did something that doesn’t possible nowadays. What was his gold?

Some say that Devaney wasn't such a great coach himself, but had a knack for picking great assistants. Having one of the first strength & conditioning programs in the country helped, too.
