Yesterday was nothing short of a unified front by the university leadership in shooting a shot across the Big Ten's bow with the threat that if the conference didn't play football this fall Nebraska could look elsewhere and at all options.

 

If Nebraska ever had any reservations about it's 10 years in the Big Ten, and wanted to pursue going back to their historical roots of the Big 8/Big12...NOW could be the time to do it.

 

Don't discount what Bill Moos has said in the past on his feelings about scheduling old Big 12 opponents. The facts are traveling to away games in Big 12 locations is just easier for Nebraska fans. Those road trips are more cost effective as well. Also, the current Big 10 conference is not the same confernce Nebraska signed up for in 2010. Nebraska didn't sign up for Rutgers & Maryland.

 

The current landscape just has that feeling that big changes are coming.

 

The NCAA's influence as a whole is on thin ice. The rumors of a Power 5 break away have only gotten louder in recent years.

 

The techtonic fault lines of college football could...could be shifting again. If Nebraska really wanted to return home, now might be the best time to look at those options.

We could go back...but we would really look like a school that couldn't handle their own against Big 10 teams and went scrambling back to easier grounds 

 

Not saying that is the truth, but narrative trumps reasons

It’s becoming obvious our leadership and B1G leadership aren’t aligned, I’m not sure it ever will be. It was a nice touch to have a NW grad crap on us on national TV for 2 minutes (Wilbon). It feels like we dropped the big 12 for money/power not caring what the repercussions were. Kinda like leaving your GF for the hot psycho girl, awesome when it happens - not as cool when you’re  in the ER with a steak knife in your thigh.

I look forward to these universities switching to solely online classes this fall and sending all of their students home instead of paying for room & board at their respective universities. As the incoming students are moving within the next 1-2 weeks at these universities, wouldn't an announcement to stay home be imminent? These University Presidents do care about the safety of their students, right?

As I understand the choices facing university presidents, it's

 

1) Greedy and irresponsible

or

2) Cowardly and hypocritical

 

And because they're terrible at making decisions, they end up being both.

leaving the big10 would be very short sighted. losing 50 million a year to play 9 - 10 games? with no one in the stands?....  I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska is booted the big 10 wouldn't reach out to Iowa State to join (higher academic standards, AAU member).

I don't actually believe UNL is exploring this. i think its a lot of chest pounding in-order to please donors (i.e.famous comedians who think covid is the flu)

We don't fit into the big ten.  This topic amplifies that point.  Never did, never will. We should leave the conference, play football somewhere, have fun.  This is likely the best chance we have had to win a natty in over 2 decades.

When we’re 9-10 years in and we have to have discussions about who our rivals are, it just doesn’t fit. 
 

still don’t get sharing revenue with Rutgers and Maryland.
