Yes, that magic number includes staff, players, and coaches. Each team has a finite number of daily tests (remember how we were hitting that ceiling thanks to our walk-ons?) so I'd wager our own magic number isn't too far off that.

No, you're not and you're right--it's 11 or more staff, coaches, or players.

They only have around 146 players, staff and coaches?  That seems low.

Some good info from beat writers covering the Badgers.

Will the Wisconsin-Nebraska football game be played Saturday? Here’s what the Big Ten COVID-19 protocols say

The conference’s protocols state that a team cannot practice or play if its seven-day rolling average of virus positivity rate surpasses 5% among players and 7.5% among the team population, which includes coaches, staff members and others closely interacting with the team.

Positivity rate is calculated by dividing the number of positive tests by the total number of tests administered.

Reaching those figures will be difficult for teams to do without significant spread of the virus among the team.

Let’s start with the 7.5% among team population. The denominator used for that metric is 170 individuals, the maximum number of people allowed to be tested daily by Big Ten teams. So to surpass a 7.5% seven-day positivity rate, a team population would have to average 13 positive tests in a seven-day span.

The denominator for the players’ rate is the total number of players tested. For UW, if it were to test its entire 113-man roster, reaching the 5% mark would mean averaging six new positive tests in a seven-day span.

We're in a no-win situation. If we win, they'll claim it was only because they were playing with their 4th-string QB. If we lose, we'll never hear the end of it.

Do you think Wisconsin cares that we played several guys out of position due to injury in the Big Ten Championship game in 2012?

They count that as a W, we'll count it as a W if we win, and there's zero shame in any of it.

This defeatist attitude some fans have needs to stop.

They were so vague about Coan's injury that I half expect him to show up out there. Although I'm pretty sure they're being vague because they're hoping he's back at the end, it would've come out if he was practicing.

Agreed on Chryst though, he (and the players) will want to play no matter what. This season has a giant asterisk anyway, and losing QBs affects Wisconsin less than most teams. If at all possible they'll play, and downplay the impact of not having QBs - win or lose.

Doesn't matter if they play their 4th string. As others have said we didn't get any slack playing fyfe, vedral, kellogg, bunch. So f them
