SECHusker
-"The total new spending in the plans would likely be $3 trillion, a person familiar with them said." -"It would spend heavily on infrastructure improvements, clean energy deployment and the development of other “high-growth industries of the future” like 5G telecommunications." -"The first plan, centered on infrastructure, includes large portions of the plan Mr. Biden offered in the 2020 election. His campaign predicted that Mr. Biden’s investments would create 5 million new jobs in manufacturing and advanced industries, on top of restoring all the jobs lost last year in the Covid-19 crisis." -"The second plan under discussion is focused on what many progressives call the nation’s human infrastructure — students, workers and people left on the sidelines of the job market — according to documents and people familiar with the discussions. It would spend heavily on education and on programs meant to increase the participation of women in the labor force, by helping them balance work and caregiving. It includes free community college, universal pre-K education, a national paid leave program and efforts to reduce child care costs." It's so big because we have been playing world police and neglecting our own home for so long. But to your point, the article points out sizeable tax increases on high earners and corporations to offset some of the expense. 3 Link to comment

Stop building trillion dollar planes that dont work. Stop making s#!t up about Iran and trying to start a new war. There, just saved a few trillion. This is the kinda stuff we need to be spending trillions on, the future of this country. Not war. 1 3 Link to comment

Agree with both of you. The cost is CRAZY high, but we do have a lot of catching up to do since the last several administrations have ignored infrastructure. Just rebuilding our D-grade bridges is going to cost a chunk of change, and we should be going way above and beyond that. 2 Link to comment

I agree here, but let’s not stop with that. Let’s look at every portion of government spending and get rid of the fraud, waste, and abuse. Let’s eliminate the needless end of year spending rush that government accounts make on unused fiscal year money. They do this in order to show they used their entire budget during a fiscal year so they get the same budget plus the increase the following year. Lots of waste there too. 2 Link to comment
