Read the letter again. It's directing the FBI to coordinate with local law enforcement and provide guidance and resources.

Why? Local law enforcement is capable of dealing with bar fights and riots in Portland....oh wait...I see now.

Jesus H. Christ. How snarky and misleading can a tweet be, @Reason?

In no possible interpretation does Bernie Sanders think 48 Senators is a majority. As @Reason points out almost immediately, 50 Senators could pass the bill if they have the Vice-President on their side. Democrats clearly have the Vice-President on their side, and  it's a stone cold fact they have 50 Senators who were elected as Democrats.

So yes, in every way that could possibly matter, two senators are thwarting the will of their party, headed by a President who received a significant majority of popular vote. Of course it's the right of Manchin and Sinema to do this, but it's also Sanders right to call them out.  There are officially zero people claiming 48 is bigger than 52.

Misunderstanding the basic math of American democracy?  This is almost as willfully stupid as the Ross Douhat column you posted.

From the article:

If Manchin and Sinema cannot be convinced to vote for the package, however, it would not be two senators preventing 48 others from passing the reconciliation bill. It would be 52 senators opposing what 48 want.

Sanders probably knows this, of course. But the continued attempts to frame opposition to the reconciliation bill as some sort of anti-democratic plot against the rightful majority is revealing on a few different levels.

True or false?

That's the article claiming something that isn't what's actually being said. They even have Bernie's tweet, so it's some pretty strong dishonesty in that article:

True.

Technically, 210 isnt a majority either...but enough of that..

Manchin and Sinema are with the majority, not hanging the minority out to dry. Ds always wanted Rs to "cross the line" during the last 4 years...but now when 2 moderate Ds do it, they become pariahs in their own party.

Oh absolutely. The Republican loathing for John McCain and Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowsi and Mitt Romney et. al.. was palpable and their principled stances were hailed by Dems, until they caved on other issues.

Of course they were pariahs in the Republican Party, much as Manchin and Sinema are today among Dems. And honestly it would be weird if every vote went exactly down party lines. Which is where were at. Which is why defectors get tons of attention and power.

But if you're playing the bigger math game, the electoral college and the U.S. Senate do not currently add up to the will of the American people. You can understand that this is how American Democracy was hammered together  (Bernie certainly understands) but you don't have to like it.

Maybe you're right that Democrats are wrong to make this about the two Democratic Senators voting their conscience. Maybe we should find two Republicans willing to admit America has spent money far more foolishly than the direct and fiscally replenishing provision of this infrastructure bill.

Absolutely. This take is what I am trying to get at...I think you are onto something. It's just too bad that Trump Republicans can't get it through their heads as well.

Not sure if Quinnipiac is a right or left wing polling outfit. At this rate he’s going to get Trump re-elected. That will make country explode.

The president’s approval rating stands at just 38%, with disapproval at 53% in a Quinnipiac University survey released on Wednesday. That’s down from a 42%-50% approval/disapproval rating for Biden in a survey Quinnipiac University conducted last month.
