Illinois - What Did We Learn?

This whole thing is so simple. Scott Frost. He says some captivating words and he seems to be a good guy but his leadership and development skills have not shown up yet.

 

Even the best coaches invest in their assistants and he’s willing to lay on a sword for guys that just aren’t getting the job done.

 

This is the best collection of talent we’ve had since bo but the difference is we can’t put them in position to make plays.

While Frost has been able to bring in some good talent, we learned he is still not a good Xs and Os coach.  He should have fired Chinander after last season, but his desire to stay loyal is only bringing his reputation down.  There is no reason a Nebraska D should ever let an Illinois team walk all over them.  A good defense can keep a team in games when the offense is struggling (as Nebraska was today). Right now the defense seems to have 1 good performance out of every 4 or 5 games which is unacceptable. 

 

Frost needs to either clean house with his staff after this season or clean out his own house and end our misery.

not saying they wouldn’t beat us but it’s not a 50+ indication. 

They kind of are going up against a defense that is lightyears betters than what NU trots out there.

 

And that is sad, because the talent is close to the same if not tilted in NUs favor

 

Amazing what a great defensive mind that gets a unit to buy into and play without over thinking all while making adjustments if needed can do for a program.

There is still no talent on this team.  Other than Wandale, the skills guys are all crap.  Talented guys can make plays in bad schemes.

Idk our top two QBs have looked better as true freshmen than they do after spending time with him.

I really feel like Frost needs to set an offensive identity rather than try to fit whomever is playing QB. Maybe better script plays and make the guys make the plays

Does a vaunted "passing technician" ever have to be accountable for his students inability to step into throws and NOT fire a 6 yard missile into the turf 2 yards short on a simple 8 yard swing pass? Or is that mitigated by being cool?

What about our OL blocking gives you any confidence we could run the I? We'd just smash RBs into 1 yard gains or losses.

i learned that scott has taken 3 years to get us to the point where we get blown out at home by illinois
