What is the future of the Republican Party?

This would be a pertinent example if Tiger Woods were the leader of golf, influencing rules and decisions and actively saying he's going to be back playing as the #1 player on tour yet this year.

Okay... going to agree to disagree on this. But, just kind of watch left media, social media and even here and see if maybe you can see what I mean...even if you don't think my stance is valid.

When is it OK to discuss trump here? When is it OK for the left-wing media to discuss trump?

I've seen what you are talking about, and disagree.

Any other President in the modern era has left office and basically stayed out of the lime light. They might do a few speeches here and there, but pretty much don't do or say anything controversial on purpose.

Trump is NOT like that.  He has continued to be the leader of the party and putting out statements that influence people's opinions and the party.  Over and over again, Republican politicians proclaim their devotion to Trump.  He has said he's strongly considering running again in 2024.

You then have MTG who calls press conferences as a sitting member of congress.

And.....you don't think the media should be commenting or covering either of these people.

Seriously?

I get it that it makes Republicans cringe and frustrated.  But, that's not the media's problem.

One heck of a lot of this would go away for Republicans if the R leadership had balls enough to call each of these people out and distance themselves from them.  But...instead, MTG is on a speaking tour raising more money than anyone else and leadership constantly states they are devoted to Trump.

I said anything relating to Jan 6th is still relevant. My point is the less coverage of Trump, the less influence he would generate. If he has any influence in 2 years, or 2024, it will be largely because of the media. (ooops IMO)

Okay...so why is a dumba$$ 2020 comment about windmills that got laughed about even then worth posting/tweeting today?

I disagree with the bolded.  He still carries extreme influence on leadership of the party.  Otherwise, they wouldn't constantly proclaim devotion to him.  Leadership still is in contact with him on major issues and, by all indications, they don't do anything without his approval.

So....yes.....he would still have influence even if the media never mentioned his name.

trump spent the last five years dragging people incessantly. If you expect people to simply forgive and forget less than five months after he was kicked out of the White House, that's pretty unrealistic.

Agreed. trump's influence isn't media-generated. It's generated by whatever hold he has on congressional Republicans long after he lost the election.

This kind of ongoing control over a party by a losing candidate is not normal. It's not time to stop talking about the guy. He bears watching.

Exactly, if Republicans are embarrassed about what is dug up about Trump, it's their own fault not ours or the medias.  Stop with the idol worshiping and proclamation of devotion to him....and it probably goes away.

I actually find this whole thing funny because after Hillary lost to Trump, Republicans constantly still brought her up even though she wasn't actively running for office.  Now...all of a sudden they expect it all to go away about Trump....meanwhile enjoy his influence on the party.

But, that is the problem with the press, and a large part of the left. They can't drum up a lot National support on their liberal merit/ideas...so they continually point to the dipsh*ts like MTG and say "at least we aren't that bad"...in an effort to make themselves look better or more appealing.

There is some truth to this.  "Not as bad as Trump" was the signature qualifier for every 2020 Democratic candidate. It was perfectly valid, but still....

The weird thing is, the American people are actually more progressive on the issues than the Democrats. From national healthcare to college tuition, to tax reform to infrastructure to abortion rights to gay rights to criminal reform,  a clear majority of Americans lean to the left side of the spectrum --- especially when the issue is framed as straight-up and non-partisan as possible.

Because the Democrats have been terrible at messaging and narratives and pre-conceding their positions, they've allowed GOP and rightwing influencers to create this binary universe that doesn't judge policy on individual merit or -- God forbid --- the will of the people, but as an ideology with two buckets:  the America First GOP vs. the Socialist Nightmare Dems.. It's simple and highly effective. Which the Democrats aren't.

i best fit the moderate conservative label.....or the RINO's as the current majority of republicans call us.   i hope trumpism dies an ugly death and somehow a more sane version of the repuplican party wins the day.  but that is looking more and more like it won't happen.  until the bat s#!t crazy wing of the republican  party is relegated to the fringe again i will not be unashamed to vote for democrats.
