Specifically with vehicles, there is a supply issue with computer chips.  However, I haven't been able to figure out if that supply issue is because of actual shortage of chips, or if the demand is so high that supply can't keep up.

It’s been a shortage.  Chip makers didn’t bring their auto chip manufacturing back on line quick enough.

I believe @ZRod works in the auto industry and we discussed this about a month or two ago.  The chip industry miscalculated (chips for other industries are more profitable) when supply would return.

It's a little of A, a little of B, and a little of C.

Sales slumped some in 2020, but not as much as everyone expected. I think 2021 sales are on pace to beat 2020 and even 2019.

Chip suppliers and the auto assembly plants themselves have been struggling to keep up with demand from consumers.  We had a shortage of chips, but now we just can't get material in the pipeline fast enough to recover. It's basically coming down to how to we build a car without certain features, or what plants do we continue to idle to protect cash cow vehicles (trucks and SUVs). Which is why you see GM and Ford selling their vehicle with rebates and promises of repairs when the chips come in.

OK, last friday, I got into an argument with a few MAGA friends over a few beers.  They claimed that Biden is SOOOO horrible because...."look at gas prices".  What a load of BS.  They firmly believe that the low gas prices in the summer of 2020 are almost ENTIRELY because of Trump and how great he was.  Meanwhile, the HIGH gas prices now are almost completely due to Biden and now BAD he is.  So, let's take a look at this.  First off.  What caused the low prices last summer.

G

Gee.....wonder what happened around March of 2020 that could have caused that sharp drop in prices.  And....gee....wonder what started happening over the winter of 2021 that would cause prices to go UP.

From May 2020 Energy News Letter

Quote

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects U.S. crude oil production to fall in 2020 and 2021 as efforts to mitigate the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continue to result in a steep drop in demand for petroleum products and crude oil prices. In its May Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), EIA forecasts that U.S. crude oil production will average 11.7 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2020 and 10.9 million b/d in 2021. These levels would be 0.5 million b/d and 1.3 million b/d, respectively, lower than the 2019 average of 12.2 million b/d.

Now...these MAGA brains seem to think it's all because Trump is GOD and controlled everything that is good.  AND....it's gone up because Biden has completely shut down oil drilling.

Crude Oil prices are today at $72 per barrel.  That's slightly above the ending of this chart from march.  But, in line with the price of oil through most of Trump's presidency.

In fact, the price of oil was up a lot before the pandemic from when Trump took office.

The idiocy of MAGA heads continues to amaze me.

What’s Jen’s point in bringing up unemployment in that discussion.  She already won the gas price argument only to just clown herself with an unemployment argument.

Because nobody was driving and going places if they were unemployed.

it’s a simple concept.

I took it as she was trying to make a dig on the unemployment situation then vs now as an indictment on how much better Joe has been for the economy by using the unemployment rate during a pandemic.

no.  But, let's say she was.  Are you saying Republicans wouldn't be praising themselves at this point for improving unemployment so much since last year?

Yes, she was.

She compared unemployment today (%) with how it was 1 year ago (from the pandemic).

She compared fuel costs of today ($ 2021) with 2018.

She wants you to agree and not think twice.  And in your response, you clearly twist it around into a hypothetical of sorts.

No. She's replying to Jordan's tweet that was comparing gas prices last year with now, which is why the unemployment rate last year was brought up because it's relevant to gas prices last year. And gas prices from 2018 are also relevant.

At the end of the day though, Jordan is making a dumb argument about gas prices.

Wrong again.  IMO they both foolish.

But the truth is, the financial hands - under Joe Bidern - are excessively trying to play catch up $$$ quickly, and it's not an ideal time for this economy right now.  Give it a year at least, geesh.
