There is a line in “It Takes What it Takes,” a 2020 book written by renowned mental conditional expert Trevor Moawad and The Athletic’s Andy Staples, in which Moawad describes the matter-of-fact exercise of thinking neutrally. In its simplest form, neutral thinking is intended to help those move forward in life. Positive thinkers can find themselves separated from reality. Negative thinkers can hinder their own progress and development. Neutral thinking is, essentially, a method to prevent the past from dictating the future. It is a process Moawad has come to master over time. He travels the country, speaking to coaches, teams, athletes and anyone who seeks to learn more about it. Michigan State coach Mel Tucker is one of them. Tucker encouraged his staff to read the book last year. He has invited Moawad to speak to his team. Neutral thinking is something Tucker lives by, day in and day out.

There’s a trip to Miami, road games at Ohio State, Northwestern and Indiana, and home dates against Michigan and Penn State. Win at least two of those, get the O going and go 5-1 or better against everyone else, and everything is back on track. Of course, doing that is going to be a tough fight, but this program is used to that.

NW and Youngstown State aren’t exactly a daunting duo but I’ve definitely been impressed most with the Michigan State OLine through 2 weeks.

 

Maybe we shock the world in Norman but assuming we lose that game, the Michigan State game becomes one of the most important of the season. With a weak NW after, we’d have a shot to be 4-2 with momentum against a tough Michigan team in Lincoln.

This is going to be a tough road game coming off the road game at OU. Hopefully we don't get too beat up in Norman this week.

I drank a glass of Kool-Aid just now.

 

If Martin, Manning, Toure & Allen are healthy for this game and we do just a bit better at pass protection I think we win.

 

One of my biggest fears is Martinez getting hurt this week against Oklahoma.

But seriously, early season hiccups happen. Do you think Illinois wins a rematch? I know that doesn't matter because we already lost, but it has less bearing on the rest of the season than some are claiming.

I think what happened in that game is we just made dumb mistake after dumb mistake. We looked like a dumpster fire because of self-inflicted wounds.
