12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

It's possible it's less exciting for a team that's currently undefeated, because they know they can mess up.

That has been an argument for awhile. But I'd like someone to actually point out which undefeated (or whatever) team just mailed in a game because they knew they were in the playoff.

I have always thought once we went to this 12 team format there will be multiple teams in the playoff who don't really belong in a NC title talk.  Here we are.  We wanted more teams, many teams probably shouldn't be there.  The only thing that is important at the end of the day, is that the best team is included.  I beleive they are there.  Only a few of these teams have a real chance.

Eh, I don't think there's anyone so dominant that they are that much better than even the bottom teams in the playoff.  There isn't as much gap as people like to believe.  It's all about who plays well, stays healthy and gets a couple of breaks.

Oregon only beat Idaho by 10 and Wisconsin by 3

Ohio State only beat Nebraska (!) by 4

Texas only beat Vanderbilt by 3 and Arkansas by 10

Penn State only beat Bowling Green by 7, USC by 3 and Minnesota by 1

Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois

Miami needed a replay miracle to beat Virginia Tech, only beat Cal by 1 and lost to Georgia Tech

Georgia only beat Kentucky by 1 and Mississippi State by 10

Tennessee lost to Arkansas

All those teams would be the higher seed if the playoffs started now.

That's the beauty of a playoff.  Get in and see what happens.  Any top 15 team can beat any team once, happens all the time. Play the games on the field, instead of just talking who we think belongs and who doesn't.

Yes they might be in the playoff guaranteed if they are undefeated - but lose this week and then the conference championship game and you lose both a bye and homefield for the first round so every game is important.  If someone were 100% confident they could win the CCG then maybe they would phone it in this week but I don't see anyone in that position.  Every team locked into their CCG game going into the final week has bad consequences facing them if they lose this week and then don't win the CCG.

I don't like the playoff system already, but that's me.  Tired of the SEC and ESPN side of things already.

Don't see where this is actually any better for college football.  Sure it gains more attention and potential for home games for a few schools, but overall, it going to be more about politics than who we actually think is deserving.  Eye test this season would tell me that there is no dominant team or conference in my opinion.  I see about 30 teams that on any given Saturday could beat any team they play based on a one game scenario.

I mean that’s exactly why an expanded playoff is good for the sport. I don’t disagree with the SEC slant but sticking to a 4 team playoff would just mean SEC gets half the field every year and then we’re arguing and politicking to justify the other 2 spots.

there are no dominant teams this year- I see that more of a result of NIL and the portal.  It’s increasingly harder for the top teams to just hoard 5 stars across the depth chart when players can make more money and exposure playing elsewhere.  It’s also worth mentioning that the greatest coach in the history of college football is finally gone and the coach won the natty is also gone.  Georgia the one program that can somewhat claim powerhouse at the moment, Oregon is trying- but the sport is incredibly open which is a great thing.

as it pertains to us, the 12 team playoff, and if it expands further, is a blessing for our program.  Today f#&%ing sucked for sure, to the point where I’m seriously rethinking bowl trip plans, but a mediocre special teams and a competent offense would’ve had us a 9-3 program this year and fringe playoff consideration.

unless we strike absolutely gold with the transfer portal, we will never be a 11-1/ 12-0 program again and need to play for that 6-15 range and make a run.

If you don't think this is better for college football, with an expanded playoff, I don't know what to tell you.

Uh, no dude. OSU is still in 100%. Clemson was fringe at best anyway. ACC still gets 1, maybe 2 in.

Uh, yes dude. I wasn't claiming OSU was out. But it puts more pressure on PSU to beat UO due to national perception about their schedule (and Indians).  And the UGA and SC results gives a higher chance of a 3-loss SEC team or two getting in.
