Houston doesnt bring much. Houston is a pro sports city.

When I attended University in Texas and we played Houston- the chants were "cougar high" because it was a commuter campus with little student support, let alone community support. Most of the people watching college spots in Houston are Texas or A&M fans.

BYU, CINCY definitely add some value though.

Houston will bring plenty once they are in a better conference and have a better looking schedule.

losing oklahoma hurts  but gaining 4 schools works out fairly well for the conference.  then consider that texas is gone also and it's a big gain for the Big 12

TV contract money will really suffer though.  Those 4 schools added together don't equal Oklahoma.  On top of the likely loss in revenue, they will now be spreading it out to 12 instead of 10.

Houston played the teams they wanted to play back in the day. Texas, A&M, Baylor, Arkansas.   They are a COMMUTER SCHOOL- no one has ever cared deeply for them before, they dont now, they wont in the future. They will always be "cougar high"- a former Junior College.  Their alums are not engaged, never have been even when Houston was good in the SWC or recently. They are a nothingburger. No one in Houston cares.

The remaining Big 12 will not maintain Power 5 status in the long run.  Kansas will be looking to parlay its basketball program to leave for the Big Ten or potentially the PAC 12.

A solid move by the Big 12.  Add 4 solid football programs and bring the conference back up to 12, which is their name.  Also this may keep them from falling from their power conference status.  A far bolder move than the "Alliance" that was the B1G, PAC, and ACC move of which nobody really knows what it means.  I am starting to feel like the ACC, B1G, and PAC did not want to share their respective pots of gold with incoming new members, but still wanted to 'respond' to the SEC gaining OU and TX so that is what the weak move of the Alliance is all about.
