Northwestern Play-by-Play

We haven't been really good at getting sacks or turnovers.  About the only things lacking from the Blackshirts.

Fordham and Buffalo did a really nice job getting the ball out quickly.  Against Northwestern we didn't get home a lot but I do think we've gotten more pressure than the lack of sacks would indicate.

Defending the option requires one guy to commit to the QB and another to commit to the pitch man.  Here, the LB (who should be committed to the QB) bites on the RB up the middle.

It's a thing of beauty.

I've mentioned it a couple of times, but Adrian is a damned natural at the option.

Man, there is a lot to defend here.  Really nice play design.  Play action to draw the linebackers up.  Crisp throw over the top.

How crazy is it seeing 6'4 and 6'3 fast receivers making plays!  Throw in Betts and Martin, you could make the argument these guys have the potential to be the best receiver group ever.  Additionally, Nixon looked super quick on his one catch.

At first it didn't seem like much (because they were likely to score anyway).  Then it seemed like a HUGE play (because it kept it a three-score game after the turnover).  Then it didn't end up mattering a whole lot.

But still a great job to keep them out.

I don't think Northwestern was really great on the DL.  That being said, if we can even be halfway between where we were previously and what we saw on Saturday, it'll be a huge difference.

They did do a good job of getting Yant around the ankles.

Gotta love that run- contact at the 31- Yant moved the pile to the 35. Drug that one tackler like a rag doll. Hope we see a lot more of that. Was nearly  a 14 yard gain- what's not to like about that.
