Frost Year 5 - 2022

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted in a long while but got curious after the game and looked ahead to next season. Obviously 2021 is not going well and will end pretty similarly to years past. Year 5 next year, schedule lightens up quite a bit. Adrian coming back, coaches/players leaving etc are TBD, but given what we have with that schedule, 6-6 would be a failure no? I have a hard time believing that a 5th year coach with his guys at NEBRASKA should be able to make a tad bit of noise with that schedule. If it goes south NEXT season I think you have the data to cut the cord. Thoughts?

Realistically, with a fifth-year starter at QB, an older O Line, a defense that has learned how to build some talent, and this schedule, we SHOULD be able to win these games:

08/27  #Northwestern - W
09/03   North Dakota - W
09/10   Ga. Southern - W
09/17   Oklahoma
09/24  #Rutgers - W
10/01  #Indiana - W
10/15  #Michigan
10/22  #Minnesota - W
11/05  #Wisconsin
11/12  #Purdue - W
11/19  #Illinois - W
11/25  #Iowa

As close as we've played Iowa & Wisconsin in recent years, we should be able to take one of those games. We played Oklahoma close (albeit with a shaky QB), so maybe there should be a chance there.

That's a lot of wins.

It's just that this staff and this team haven't shown the ability to get out of their own way.

Realistically, you can't bet on Nebraska to win any of those games.

That's the tricky part, quick glance it has turn-around season written all over it. But, the inevitable close game we shouldn't be in, does it go our way? Do the losses on D hurt this team more bc the O still struggles? On paper, its a chance for some wins and feel good. If it goes poorly, you have MORE than enough to make the decision imo.

It is far from a guarantee that Adrian comes back.  I think we could use a transfer QB.  We lose a lot of players on defense.  The schedule is lighter, but I don't see things improving greatly..  Maybe, 6 or 7 wins if some luck finally goes the Huskers' way.   The culture of losing in concerning.  All the players and coaches are used to it.  I feel the coaching staff needs to be shaken up some.

Looks like a good schedule to break in a new coach.

Let's say Frost manages to keep his job this year.  Then he manages to eek out 6 or 7 wins with next year's schedule.  Then what?   We're 5-7 the following year and he gets canned anyway?

Maybe the wise decision would be ripping the band-aid off sooner rather than later.

Why would he go anywhere? It's unlikely anyone on the roster is going to take his spot. He isn't going to the NFL.  I don't think Alabama is going to be calling.

There were plenty of players last year for Nebraska that decided to forgo another year and try to make it in the NFL even though they knew their chances of being on an opening day roster were slim.  For better or worse, Martinez is what he is at this point.

That's the most fascinating part right now. How much does Trev believe in SF? Next year could be a marginal improvement record wise for Scott, could be a takeoff season for him, or could be a nice welcoming schedule for a new head coach looking for some positive energy with the program. The ultimate gamble. Go Big Red

Gives you a migraine to think about it, but Adrian Martinez is eligible to return next year for a painful 5th season. Imagine Frost in his 5th year and Martinez in his 5th year as the starting QB and we fall to another 4 or 5 win season. Because looking at the schedule with this roster, sure we could all say we should win 8-10 games, but it's the same roster that can't win games and hasn't been able to win games. Same coaching staff that hasn't been able to reduce the repeated mistakes. Nothing on the field would tell me this team wins more than 6 games next year.

That's where I am at.

After watching today’s game, what makes you believe we can win so many games. This team finds a way to lose games where we are favored and have the better talent on the field. Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to our chaotic offense with no identity.

You just looked at the schedule and didn't read my post, didn't you?
