Yeah, years later. But if it were one year post being fired, you'd be on a messageboard calling HOF coaches "Fired NFL Coaches, no one wants". Thanks for proving my point.

Harbaughs results speak for himself. He'll be lucky to have a job after this season too. Harbaugh is up there in the tier with Pelini, O'brien, Kirk Ferentz. And a tier below the one that would contain Frank Solich and Snyder.

That is a good list and I'd be happy with any of those.  My first is Lane Kiffin but probably a pipe dream as well. Therefore, move on to those 3 you mentioned that have had good experience as a HC.  I'm a bit reserved about Arranda only because he's been a HC for only 2 years (kind of like SF was at UCF), however, he his proving himself to not be SF with his record at Baylor.

Most of them were rehired to coach the next season after they were fired (sometimes as coordinators, but nontheless rehired). - I looked it up. You have no point. You just don't like me criticizing your golden pick.

Penn State at the time was reeling from one of the worst scandals in the history of college sports (possibly the worst), the program honestly should have crumbled into nothingness from that point forward, but O'Brien not only kept them afloat but had winning records. I wouldn't say that was simply "ok," I actually think he did an amazing job given the circumstances.  

 

I'm not saying O'Brien would be the answer at Nebraska, but I'm surprised that some of the extreme negative reactions in this thread against him. Meanwhile we have threads promoting guys like Lane Kiffin who has failed his way out of A LOT more jobs than Bill O'Brien and is a bigger d-bag, and other guys who have the stink of scandal on them like Ed Orgeron (Title IX lawsuit) and Hugh Freeze (recruiting violations and escort services). I'd take O'Brien over all those guys for sure.

Why would Kiffin leave Ole Miss for NU? He has a pretty good thing going at Ole Miss. I don't see him leaving. I like Fickle but if we are being honest Chadwell is probably the most realistic option should we part with Frost. BOB wouldn't be a terrible option and I do think he is realistic but I'm not terribly excited about starting over with either of those coaches.

Hiring O'Brien would give the same excitement, or less, as Mike Riley. No way he out-recruits most of the B1G for the athletes we would need to compete for the West. Losing record for at least 2 more years, over under for wins after that is a solid 6. 

 

We've literally seen THAT movie already.

No doubt he did an OK job. It's not like he inherited am untalented team. The 4 years before he got there, Penn St. was 11-2, 11-2, 7-6, 9-4. The juniors and seniors when he took over were all recruited when Penn St. was 11-2 and in the title hunt. Any obstacle faced towards continuing that success was mental and distractions from what was going on outside that program at the time. - O'Brien did a good job keeping the team focused in the wake of that. - But the talent and work ethic was already there.

 

Truth be told, to me, Franklin's first 3 years going 7-6 are more impressive to me- his leaders were recruited during the turmoil and the sanctions, weren't as talented and faced all the same distractions. 

 

I've never said O'Brien is a bad coach. I'm just not as impressed as others. That's fine.

Then you start building additions with new pier and beam foundations.  

 

I would love to see more evidence of Frost's foundation building, but right now he looks like an unbonded contractor relying on spackling and caulk.

The NCAA also gave Penn St players a free transfer with eligibility to play right away. So they lost a QB with starts, their best RB, their best WR, their starting TE, a starting LB, and an all B1G Kicker - among other depth players, and three 4-star recruits.
