New Offensive Coordinator options?

Recommended Posts

I have some similar concerns, but the bottom line is, we're not really in a position to be picky with the hire. Everyone knows that Frost is on the hot seat so you've gotta find someone who's willing to come despite the circumstances, which means A) a young guy looking for a nice pay raise; or B) a guy who was at a school with a HC change who isn't being retained (ala Mickey Joseph). Regardless, any candidate realizes that it very well could be a one-year gig.

Kind of like our current head coach and the vaunted AAC?  Because in year 4 he too is still a long way from B1G level football.  I am not syaing Korn or anyone will right this ship, but it has sunk with Captain Frost at the helm.  Again, if rumors are true that Frost and Co went to CC and ran a lot of the stuff against Iowa.  That scheme got us a 21-6 point lead......

If Korn is the wrong hire now, then Frost was the wrong hire then.

Or we should have done what many stated at the beginning.  Throw and insane amount of money at Herman, but we didn't so here we are.  I'd much rather roll the dice with an up and coming scheme and OC like Korn that sh!t Harrell would bring.

Tom Herman was not coming here as an OC no matter how much we threw at him. He has plenty of $ and has the luxury of waiting around for a sexier position to become available.

I also find it hard to believe that Joseph would accept the position without knowing who he'd be working with, which leads me to think it's someone he's worked with before or is at least familiar with.

Point being, like you said, who the heck are we going to get.  I threw out Herman like I had other high profile guys.  We are not and we're not getting them. At least Korn has some name cache.  Will get the media talking.  Can coach QB's.  Was a 4* who went to Clemson initially.  NU ran something similar to 3 NC's with the talent we got.  Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle.....PFF had one of our OL grade out at 0% in pass blocking against Iowa IIRC....Run blocking we do/did much better.  Maybe this next season scheme and OL coach actually merge and mutually support one another.  And maybe the O and D are actually complimentary as well.  D tired, O have the ability to bang between the tackles and get tough yards to grind.  And maybe, be the opposite of our awesome performing O of this season and actually score in the red zone.
