What Players Leave After The Season?

we're going to have around  6 players drafted on a team that won 3 games. really feels like this season was a huge wasted opportunity.

That's what mismanaging special teams and lots of unnecessary offensive penalties get you. Might have gone to a bowl game if not for that.

Totally agree about the season being a wasted opportunity.

No.  Didn’t say that but if you’re an NFL team spending big bucks and precious draft picks on your billion dollars football team, the last thing you may decide to do is select a center with a short college career on a guy that 18 mos before had terrible snapping issues for an entire  season plus and questionable coaching, after being a h.s. TE that had injury issues and was under weight.  His superior athleticism helps but one good season (a couple snaps went awry I believe in ‘21) is not the same as a 3 year all conference starter imo.

Again, he is a pretty good pro prospect but not any guaranteed pick.

He was a Tight End in high school, but as soon as he hit NU he was groomed to be a center.  He's been nothing but a center for the past 4 years.  Also, his "injury issues" (again were 3 years ago) may be one of the big factors for Cam to go to the NFL.  If he knows he has 5-7 years left in his football career, he might as well get paid for all of those years.  Hopefully his career lasts long enough to get that 2nd contract, a great signing bonus and earn great money in the last 1-3 years of his career.  Why waste one of those last few years of playing football not getting paid at all?

The average NFL career is about 3 years (that's all players combined) but if you are more talented (PB type) or starter you're looking at a decade or more on the roster.  Lineman are some of longer careered players.  So you don't spend much money on someone you think is going make it 5 years at the very top of their game.  He would be much better off to improve his skills and make people feel he's worth the risk. He's still a project at this point.

Yea, but if you’re a higher pick, the team has more invested in you and will likely give you a better chance.  Late rounders and undrafted guys get a brief look but you may be being picked as a plan B or C cause the ones you really wanted were gone already.    Cam is very athletic but I tend to think NFL looks for size, strength, and technical skills PRIMARILY and his test scores can help but film action over 3 seasons will speak loudly.  Those gawd awful snaps that took years to ‘fix’ may haunt him.

Or they will see a very coachable player who fixed his snapping issues in just his second year of playing the position. Also remember it took outside help to fix the issues as well.

Oh, just noticed you put fix in quotes so you don't believe he actually corrected his snaps.

Well, to be fair, they did start having Martinez wear platform cleats. So was it really fixed? :dunno

Wait, my bad!  We're not supposed to say anything good about former HC Mike Riley because he's not from Nebraska.  We can only give praise and credit to Frost and Pelini.  I sometimes forget about that rule, until someone mentions it.

He didn't commit to Riley, he's a Nebraska kid who committed to the University of Nebraska! :bigredn:

I remember seeing him on the sideline and thinking "Who is that super skinny player?"  Obviously couldn't put on the size needed for any of the LB positions.

Saw an out of pads picture of him on twitter next to Nelson, Henrich, and some other LBs and thought Hannah might be a recruit on a visit lol. Chins was super high on him as a recruit. I think he has the instincts but just couldn’t quite put on the bulk to play in this conference.
