Let's do a test here:

Look at this definition of what folks think a DE should be coming out of HS:

Now, go look at this guy's stats.

DE Recruit #1:

At last year's NFL combine, DE Kayvon Thibodeaux out of Oregon (6'4", 254) ran a 4.58 40 and benched 225 for 27 reps.

I'm not one that is big on numbers (cause they can't tell heart), but according to the link above, the first person above is as good as a group of five/FCS defensive end.

I can't tell what the point is you're trying to make, dawg.

Kayvon Thibodeaux was a 5* recruit, rated by 24/7 Sports as a .9987. That apparently makes him their 49th highest ranked player of all time.

And that's referring to his score entering into his true freshman year of college.

So like, guy was 5th overall in the 2022 draft and had that written all over him as an athlete since he was like a junior in high school.

As a follow-up, Myles Garrett was also a 5* rated by 24/7 Sports at .9993, making him their 24th highest ranked player of all time entering college.

And IMO he's the best defensive end in the league right now.

Sometimes looking at extreme examples helps to underscore a point. And in this case the point is that these rankings aren't complete bull like so many of you claim. It's an extreme example, but if you paired one of these guys against some 3* defensive end, who has the higher odds of being a high caliber player?

Again...extreme examples, but still shows how the recruiting rankings do have some validity. Obviously there is then this sea of 3* players and some of them wind up having really different outcomes.
