Comparing Nebraska and Texas since the 2009 Big XII Championship

Recommended Posts

For a while there Texas was a perennial top 10 team recruiting wise.  They took a little bit of a dip for a few years and then started signing some good classes again.  Their W/L record and rankings at the end of the year however definitely have not lived up to those classes after 09.

The Charlie Strong years definitely weren't good years for Texas nor was the terrible debut by Sarkisian last year.

During this time for frame I believe OU passed us up in total wins by playing in the weaker conference.  Texas wt their resources, opportunities, & recruitment base are amazing failures   They look to fall even deeper in the hole in the SEC. The curse of the 1 second is upon them!

Sarkisian was a questionable hire based on his time at USC.

He doesn’t strike me as being very good on coaching defense. The word out there is Nebraska has better D coaches than Texas.

With all of the talent coming out of the state of Texas, they have woefully underperformed.  With all of that homegrown talent, they should be in the conversation most years.  There's no doubt that to win, "blue chip" players will make up the bilk of your roster. But Texas shows that coaching also counts.

We've seen that at Nebraska.  Bill Callahan had some very good recruiting years, but because of his blind allegiance to his DC, he failed.  That is a coaching failure.  HCSF's recruiting classes were pretty respectable up until this year. His  record could be in large part due to his blinded loyalty to his coaching friends and lack of foresight/insight into what it takes to win at the Big 10 level.   This next season will show us how much he has or hasn't learned.  Nebraska has paid a huge sum for his 'education'.

I don't think this deserves its own thread, but it's interesting to see how much more successful women's sports are than men's.

As noted in the replies to this, equivalent wins in men's sports would be:

Football:  9-3

Basketball:  24-8

Baseball: 34-12

The disparity between men's and women's sports at Nebraska is amazing.

I've pondered this.

a). Is it just a coincidence that men's sports is so bad and women's is so good?

Or.

b).  Is there a culture problem throughout mens sports (specifically) where men aren't doing what's needed to win?  Does culture spread across sports teams like that within an athletic department?
