And if a frog had wings....

It is absolutely mind boggling on why the Huskers continue to be such a bad shooting team....and this has been going on for years.

I still think it has something to do with how and where they practice shooting.  It has to be something systemic within the program.

I think alot has to be with not having dominate post player.  I like Derrick, but he is a PF.  Last night, IL contested most of our 3 pt. Attempts.  They were guarding walker with 1 guy; no backside help. Welcher has not been consistent since coming on campus

Meh....I think there are other programs that don't have a dominant post player that have consistently better shooting than Nebraska has had for the last....how many years.

A dominant post player doesn't hurt free throw shooting.  I honestly have never known an NCAA team that has been as pathetic at free throws as Nebraska over the last few years.

Agree, free throw shooting is & has been pathetic.  We also do not move well without the ball, too much dribbling.

I would be interested in knowing our shooting percentage the 10 years prior to playing at PBA and building the new practice facility compared to our percentage since.

I had forgotten that the Hendricks Center opening coincided with the move to the B1G.  So it would be basically impossible to distinguish the effects of the two.  And this analysis really should be done relative to the conference/national average instead of the raw data.  But...

Nebraska 3-point shooting percentage:

Big XII, Devaney, Barry Collier Coaching:

2002-03 - 27.7%

2003-04 - 38.9%

2004-05 - 31.7%

2005-06 - 34.7%

Big XII, Devaney, Doc Sadler Coaching:

2006-07 - 37.5%

2007-08 - 34.2%

2008-09 - 36.1%

2009-10 - 39.7%   *14th in the country

2010-11 - 31.4%

*** Hendricks Training Center opens in 2011 ***

*** Huskers Move to the B1G ***

B1G, Devaney+Hendricks, Doc Sadler Coaching:

2011-12 - 32.4%

B1G, Devaney+Hendricks, Tim Miles Coaching:

2012-13 - 30.7%

*** Pinnacle Bank Arena opens in 2013 ***

B1G, PBA+Hendricks, Tim Miles Coaching:

2013-14 - 33.3%

2014-15 - 28.4%

2015-16 - 34.7%

2016-17 - 32.0%

2017-18 - 34.6%

2018-19 - 33.8%

B1G, PBA+Hendircks, Fred Hoiberg coaching:

2019-20 - 31.8%

2020-21 - 33.3%

2021-22 - 32.0%

2022-23 - 29.4%   *through January 10, 2023

So....

By venues:

Big XII, pre-Hendricks Center straight average: 34.65%

B1G, Hendricks Center straight average: 32.2%

By coaches:

Big XII, Devaney, Barry Collier Coaching straight average: 33.25%

Doc Sadler Coaching straight average: 35.21%

Tim Miles Coaching straight average: 32.5%

Fred Hoiberg Coaching straight average: 31.62%

So there is a difference in venues.  But there are so many variables I don't know how you could separate them out.  And it's continued to go down under Hoiberg so it's not all the venue.

And I'm not sure how much that difference really affects the games.  We are attempting 20.6 threes per game.  There is a 2.45% difference overall pre-Hendricks to post.  That calculates out to one fewer made three pointer every two games.  So pretty small and mostly random as to when it actually occurs.

Interesting. Thanks for all the work on this.

Wow, that was a lot of work.  Part of the difference has to be that the Big 12 is more of a free-flowing offensive league & the B1G is more defensive minded.

@Mavric can you include free throws, home/road splits and provide details on the wonen’s shooting? I’d like something by the end of the day.  Thanks!

Free throws are shot after fouls.

Slightly more than half the games are at home, most of the rest are on the road.

Glad I could help.
