The bolded parts are just silly. Every coach that has ever turned a program around or won a championship was at some point a coach who had not yet done those things like a Matt Campbell. I get that people think Urban would be a savior for Husker football, but the idea that he's the only coach who could possibly do it is just dumb.

Meyer > Campbell end of discussion stop looking for lighting in a bottle. Urban can make Nebraska relevant everything else is looking for someone that can make you into a 9 win program at best

But I feel that we don't have years for a slow build up. If this program keeps wandering in the wilds like we have for the past 20 years we will most definitely be an after thought to anyone under the age of fifty. If we aren't already there.

We are already there. Fans might not want a slow build up but that might be what it takes.

Oh, end of discussion, well I guess that ends it then.

We've reached the point of the coaching search where fans settle into only a single candidate can possibly succeed.

I'm pretty positive we have an AD that understands that and doesn't care about short-term popularity. Guy talked non-stop about process improvement in his presser. It's definitely the direction he's going and it's probably the first time that's actually happening around here.

That... doesn't matter.

Baylor was an afterthought before Briles. Kansas was an afterthought before Mangino. Clemson was an afterthought before Dabo. What was Ole Miss before Freeze? Who cared about TCU or Boise before Patterson and Petersen respectively got them to the top of the mountain?

It's so weird that people are so concerned about this when we're still currently packing out 90k for a team that's won 16 games in five years, and had 2 out of 3 losing seasons right before that. So what if the right coach has to build for four years and people's attention wanes further? If the coach is good, thf the coach is good, they'll develop a good team, and then the attention and interest will come right back.

And therein lies the rub. IF is the biggest word in the dictionary. How many are available out there right now? The last three coaching decisions have been disastrous. We all wanted Frost to be the one, he wasn't. We don't have time for if's and maybe's. What IF the next choice is a Frost clone? We need someone who is proven.

But any coach is an IF, even the "proven" ones. There's a lot of opinions and ponderings on what makes a good coach or what's too risky or what's too conservative, but no one really knows for sure.

I think the qualifications of a successful coach are quantifiable. Past results are usually indicative of future results. Frost caught lightning in a bottle. Then failed miserably. We need someone proven
