Ok lets take your word that it's just a 2 name race and nobody else is being considered. Man the things people come up with smfh. Just wow. Your statement is totally false and nobody is going to believe that.

Lars Anderson has already said it's Campbell, Thamel, Feldman have also said Campbell is the leading candidate

Hey guys, I don't have a big update but just wanted to circle back to this after what transpired over the weekend. Obviously the coaching search is ongoing, and they haven't zeroed in on one candidate (from what I've heard at least), but Dykes is turning heads. He is clearly not afraid to swing and punch bigger, better, and more skilled teams in the mouth since he's done it everywhere he's gone. To me, that means he wouldn't be afraid to go into The Big House, Horseshoe, Happy Valley, etc which fires me up. Furthermore, his continuity of success is impressive which, in my opinion, is where we got into trouble with Frost. No doubt Frost had an unbelievable year at UCF but that's all it was. One year at one program. We had no way of knowing if it was him or his coordinators propping him up. After seeing Heupel's success at Tennessee, it feels like the latter. I thought the same thing about Harbaugh at Michigan until last year. Before Michigan, his defense was the reason for his success, but that unit was coached by Vic Fangio, one of the greatest defensive minds ever. At both SMU and TCU, Dykes has turned the team around quickly, beat bigger opponents, and maintained an explosive offense despite not having the same OC the entire time. That continuity impresses me. I hope you all give Dykes some serious thought because I think it would be a great hire for us.

Sonny, I love and admire your ability to write in the 3rd person.

If I had to bet on who I think the next coach will be, I'd bet on Campbell. I also think Rhule is a wild card.

Would totally be cool with that he needs to hurry up and get fired. The only negative is he at Joey Mcguire at Baylor and wouldn't this time. That guy's a boss and doing great things at Texas Tech.

It's a 2 man race between Campbell & Leipold

Although I don't think that's true, I like the idea of Leipold a lot more than Campbell. But, I do wonder if Wisconsin moved on from Chryst knowing that this was the coaching cycle to go get Leipold. Despite some ties to us, he's more tied to Wisconsin after being born and raised there, playing ball at UW-Whitewater, and then coaching at Whitewater and Madison so that makes our bid more challenging.

Agent has a lackluster client in need of a boost.

Agent has their (unpaid) interns post anonymously on message boards and the twitter saying his client would be a good fit for job X.

Agent gets a blogger to blog some bloggy stuff about how people are talking about coach Y for job X.

Local and national beat writers, who are contractually obligated to produce a Top 5/7/10 list of targets for each job opening, cite the blogger citing the interns.

Now that the agent has attention for his client as a Candidate, he can negotiate a higher salary at their current stop or at whatever new school ends up desperate enough to hire him.

It's a seamless, bulletproof method of promotion.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but this is something else. I'm just reporting on what I've heard from my friend and what I've been thinking but I do appreciate your creativity. Other than what I've said, I haven't seen much on Dykes coming to Lincoln to be honest. Any chance you could pass along a link from one of these local and national beat writers talking about Sonny? Even if they are contractually obligated to write about him, I'd be interested in reading what they have to say.

Pretty safe to say that if Leonhard doesn't work out, Leipold is their guy.

No offense, 1988, but I've written corporate media statements professionally, and you read exactly like an outsider who's been given a script and an agenda.

For what it’s worth I think I prefer Dykes over Campbell and Leipold. Dykes has a pipeline into TX.  Campbell’s stock has really dropped. Leipold is hot right now but let’s see where Kansas is at after the meat of their schedule. But the reason I don’t like either is because they are regional small niche players. We are in a huge national mega conference only getting bigger and we need to be more of a national program and presence. Neither of those coaches gets close to that.  If Trev can’t see where things are going in that regard we are in big trouble. We will self limit to a few states and mire in mediocrity. No thanks. Hire the homerun and build the future.
