88 but we could technically be lower if someone has accepted the 'retirement package' I assume there will be two LBs to hit the portal this week

Callahan is fairly certain we're already at - or below - 85.

Some combination of the following:

There may be a couple of guys who have taken the retirement package but it hasn't been publicly announced.

Guys with one semester left going off scholarship and getting NIL compensation instead.  Bleekrode would be a possibility.

Have to think there may be a few scholarships to walk-ons. Development is going to be key.

No thanks imo. Show something on the field before you earn a scholly imo. This isn't a Disney movie. We suck.

Nate Boerkircher & Bullock come to mind as guys who may get one. They were “good” enough to beat out hand picked scholarship guys. But at the end of the day if you get beat out by a walk-on you probably aren’t developing well or that staff made some bad evals.

I think we may get a couple announcements around graduation in two weeks about guys moving on. Somewhat similar to how Colton Feist waited to say anything until after he finished the semester. Quite a few in the secondary going on their 4th or 5th years now would seem most possible.

@Mavric or @Deckeddo grad transfers get a window on the transfer portal outside the window that expired last week?

I believe the window does not apply to Grad Transfers.

****Do not turn this into a Deion discussion.  There is a thread for that****

Two nuggets from an Athletic article on Deion's roster flip that pertain to our roster:

Sanders is executing this overhaul at a time when transfer rules are changing. The NCAA has made it much tougher for underclassmen to gain immediate eligibility on their second transfer. In recent years, it was easy to get a waiver by citing no participation opportunity (NPO) at your previous school. That won’t work anymore. Obtaining that eligibility waiver now requires documented issues of mental health, assault, discrimination or disability. Undergraduate transfers joining Colorado have two options if they need to transfer again: Get their degree first or sit out a year in residence.

There’s a potentially greater issue coming soon. The NCAA is concerned enough about the graduation rate of transfers that they want to hold schools accountable. Starting this year, the undergraduate transfers Sanders signs will have their financial aid guaranteed for their full five-year period of eligibility and count against Colorado’s 85-man scholarship limit until they graduate or go pro.

There are ways to get around that if the player transfers again or is medically disqualified, but recruiting staffers recognize they must be careful when taking transfers who aren’t close to graduating.

“If we take an undergrad transfer, we now view it like you’re stuck with this guy for the rest of their career,” the a Big 12 Director of Player Personell said. “The rules are written in a way to encourage you being stuck with them. If they take 25 transfers and 15 of them stink, there’s really no way to get rid of those guys.”

Good info.  Thanks.  Any updates in Gilbert (TE from UGA) getting a waiver to play?  Seemed to remember there being an issue and NU was working on it.
