Can you explain the mess at the border? And where does this rank as a priority for Americans?

Which Dem policies on crime do you think should be undone? And what problems would be solved by undoing these policies?

What do you mean by this? What policies do you favor that are different than the Dems?

Like what? And again, what problems would be solved by undoing these education policies?

Again, you said, "I think Trumpsters are looking for his policies without the crazy." What were Trump's specific policies that you and your people embraced, other than the wall?

Please don't interpret these posts as an attack. You are the one that brought up Trump's policies, and we want to know more and gain some insight into your thought process.

You see, our "leftist" viewpoints did not see Trump proposing actual policies. We saw him use the rhetoric of racism, smiting ones enemies, demonizing liberals, and outright chaos to try to hold onto power and enrich himself. The GOP did not even put out an actual platform or legislative agenda the last couple of elections. We know that their kooky rhetoric has garnered a lot of votes, but since you brought up policy...are Republicans actually interested in policy at all? This is why we have so many questions, and you are the only one around here to ask.

And what did trump get accomplished policy wise?  very little.  He didn't over turn ObamaCare as promised, He didn't pass an Infrastructure Bill as promised, He didn't build the greatest wall ever as promised,  he didn't get us out of Afghanistan as promised.   Yes, he nominated and seated 3 justices to the SC - a promise kept.  But as far as legislative policy - not much substance but a lot of talk.

adding to the above,  Trump moved the GOP closer to Mussolini then to any of the GOP leaders of the past.

Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama are classic centrists, going by our historical model. In terms of policy and actions, Obama's administration was far closer to Bush's than either side would like to admit

There aren't many true socialists in this country, and they definitely don't consider these mainline Dems to be their people.

I've had partisan debates for as long as I can remember. But I don't remember anything being remotely as scary as the current GOP.  Never dreamed I'd live to see this, tbh.

I agree 100% and I have many more years of witnessing the change.  My political “idols” if you will were Robert Kennedy and HHH when I was in my early teens. They were considered liberal in those days but today they would be very moderate.  There wasn’t this loony tunes alt right side except on the very fringe. Now it has captured a party.  Yes political discourse was sharp but there wasn’t this type of violent anger and hate. I see no one on the GOP who will rise up and stand against this and influence change. Yes Liz and Hogan and others speak out put they don’t have the political capital/power to effectively change the party

This was too hard to quote on a mobile. I can briefly try and answer in order.

I haven’t looked at a poll lately but the border falls behind items like inflation/economy, education, crime depending on where you are. The news organizations you might read or listen are just starting to report on the border and I mentioned Newsome and the Denver mayor already complaining about being overwhelmed. Anytime people cross without knowledge of the authorities, it’s a mess. We need to be able to limit the people coming in and turn back the criminals. It’s not under control. Watch what happens when 42 goes down. I am supporter of controlled immigration. My family has volunteered to help refugees from places like Karin, Afghanistan and others settle in Denver. We are about to volunteer again. The whole family. I love to have my kids learn about the refugees lives and their stories are incredible. …But I am not for let people just walk in until we know who they are. Thousands a day cannot be controlled. Establish temp worker visas for short periods when the migrants work the summer crops. Pay a fair wage. Collect taxes and Medicare if they are using the system and let them come and go on the visas. Cut down the drug trafficking and gangs.  There is a lot to improve and we may to shut it down to get it under control, then turn back on the spigot.

The policies that release criminals to go break the law again. Policies that let people walk with stuff that is not paid for without consequences. Safety is gained. Go talk to voters in Portland and see how they feel.

We were briefly  net energy exporter. I would prefer not to be dependent on on anyone for our energy except maybe a little from Mexico and Canada just to be neighborly. Don’t force expensive alternatives when they are not efficient enough.

I prefer less control over school districts with regard to curriculum. I would prefer that curriculum focus on the basics versus social issues. I would prefer that the schools offer advanced classes for kids that are ready. Ability grouping is fine. I think the lockdowns and remote learning were a disaster and did more harm than good.  I would prefer teachers be paid on merit versus years of service. It’s getting late, I am getting tired and I have more responses to read.

I think we've done polls in the past.  You might be a lot further to the right than you think...

I think I found this topic in 2020 and thought it might be interesting. I used to just monitor football and the big ten topics. Not long after I started reading ‘politics and religion’ I remember some poster saying they hadn’t been on this topic in awhile and they commented that it was still everyone arguing with Archy. I didn’t know what they meant at the time, but over the last two years it sure seems that way. I guess my impression is that most folks here just come on to complain or vent about Trump and the Trumpets and usually just agree with one another. I think I have found common ground once or twice with a poster that I considered left of center in all these years. I am spending too much time here. I need to find a better hobby and let you all chat without adding my opinion….which is only worth what you paid for it :)

And, he promised to reveal his taxes once the audit was done.  Well, guess what? Big surprise, here! He was never under audit.  What a bottom dwelling slug of a human being.  And, for all you gullible Trumpers out there, be sure that you continue to buy into his digital trading cards.  Idiots.

Why do you think that changed?  When do you think most of the drilling happened that made us a net energy exporter?

Interesting read on the subject, if you're interested.

That doesn't mean they are liberals or Democrats.  I, for one, am so pissed off at Trump and the MAGAts that put him in power because I want a good conservative party to be able to vote for.  Right now, I don't have that.  I don't like having to vote for Democrats simply because the other side is too crazy to want them in power.

Thanks for explaining some of your perspective, it is honestly appreciated.

I hope you stick around and continue to engage. There are still tons of questions and debatable viewpoints stemming from this post. But for now, it is still unclear what specific solutions/policies Trump or the GOP have proposed in these areas to actually make things better for Americans.

Yeah, I hope you don't feel too outnumbered or shouted down. I've been on some really high-octane political threads and Comments sections, and P&R on HuskerBoard is a far better place to have legit conversation, a really interesting collection of people coming from various perspectives. As mentioned, anger and concern over Donald Trump shouldn't flag you as a liberal, and that dodge is keeping us from actually addressing the issues. Everyone correcting right wing misinformation isn't a liberal either. Every couple months Archy is right about something, and I have to deal with that, too.

FWIW I would also love more inspired and less corrupt leadership from the Democrats and find myself more aligned with some of our disillusioned Republicans here than my own party loyalists.
