Mavric
Was on the team at Baylor when Rhule was there but barely played as a back-up quarterback. Has been at Carolina for the last two years as a "Coaching Assistant" then an "Offensive Assistant." Pretty light on experience. But was a three-time Academic All-Big 12. And is a Texas native so hopefully can recruit there. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Son of Texas Tech Head Coach Joey McGuire, who Rhule hired out of the high school ranks when he was at Baylor. So there are definitely some Texas high school connections. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
Garrett McGuire also happens to be Joey McGuire’s (Texas Tech HC, former Rhule assistant) son. EDIT: Mavric beat me to it, so my post can be deleted. Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
I’m not a huge fan of nepotism within college and pro football, but it is what it is. 6 Quote Link to comment
Popular Post I AM FOOT FOOT
There is now way Rhule is dumb enough to hire a kid with no wr coaching experience on a rebuild . With the pool of money he got to work with and this is what he turns in???? I really hope I'm wrong but man this is lame as hell for now. 5 1 6 Quote Link to comment
flatwaterfan
Not sure about this hire but will give it full support until and/or if it goes sideways. Haha. Here's an interesting story that may detail why he got the job. We shall see if it works. https://www.panthers.com/news/garret-mcguire-begins-coaching-journey-with-panthers Quote Link to comment
Popular Post Fru
I have a difficult time believing Rhule made a good faith effort to get the best possible WR coach, and it just happened to be this child. Biggest assistant $$ pool in program history. Absolutely baffling hire. 4 1 6 Quote Link to comment

This guy's the backup and it comes back to what Rhule said, he'd rather work with someone that fits with him over an all star name. 5 1 Quote Link to comment

Popular Post The Murphinator
Rhule said he was going to have a young staff. He has proven to have a good eye for young coaches in the past. Would have liked to have someone with more experience, but just going to trust Rhule on this one. 5 1 2 2 Quote Link to comment

We’ll know in a year or two if this works or not. Quote Link to comment

I would have to think that this is what it comes down to. We will have to keep our fingers crossed that he could learn in the fly. I am hoping the young coaching staff is able to connect with recruits Quote Link to comment
