16 teams fits perfectly with a 3/6/6 scheduling model.  Nebraska should want to be locked into a permanent game with either for the So Cal recruiting.

Sec can host their own playoff and call it the Southeastern Championship. Only the Big 10 could host a playoff and call it a national championship.
