Drew Christo continues to disappoint, as he gets pulled before the end of the 2nd inning.  NU down 2-0, still in top of the 2nd.

Good thing UNC's pitching is terrible.  NU has it quickly tied up, and looking for more in the bottom of the 2nd.

Now 4-2 NU after another 2-run homer.

Bats have woken up and good performance from the guys in the bullpen.  NU cruising to an 8-2 lead.

Must be a reason or situation going on why he didn't get drafted in the first 8-10 rounds.  All of that MLB hype.... 

 

If he doesn't turn it around this year I guarantee, he will transfer to find a fresh start somewhere else.  Then probably pitch amazing and get to the bigs.

I know you played baseball at a high level, so you have a much better understanding of that transition from high school ball to college.  This is me guessing, but I think he was able to overpower so many kids in high school with his velocity, and now he actually has to "pitch" at the college level, and he's struggling to hit his spots.  In nearly every appearance he has had at NU, he has struggled throwing strikes.  Based on how a lower level D1 team was hitting him around yesterday, he will need to figure something out soon to be a regular contributor.

Nice job by Nebraska getting two convincing wins over a team they should've beaten the brakes off of. Here's hoping the weather holds and Nebraska is able to get in all 3 versus a pretty good hitting Illinois State team. Might be some wild games this weekend.

From the broadcasts, it sounds like Christo has made progress with his secondary pitches but his fastball is a little flat yet.  He must be throwing strikes in practice to earn a start but is overthrowing or getting yippy in the games?

 

I hope he sticks with it.  Maybe this summer they can change his arm angle to get more movement or something like that?   Or maybe he throws a 4 seamer and needs to develop a 2 seam fastball?    Any experts out there that can comment how pitchers fix their issues?

This is why he is having trouble throwing strikes.  A lot of players in college can hit a flat fastball. The staff is most likely trying to get movement.  You do this with finger position & release.

You are exactly right about it.  Well said. Pitchers have to hit their spots pretty consistently and be able to throw strikes with breaking balls as well, to keep hitters alert. He's not overpowering hitters at this level, and like you said, needs to learn how to pitch.
